Enhancing class engagement with OSU’s new student response system

Rhododendron blossoms on OSU campus

Starting summer 2025, Poll Everywhere will replace Top Hat to become Oregon State University’s centrally supported Student Response System (SRS). OSU employees with valid ONID accounts will be able to register as presenters, and students will be able to register as participants using ONID.  There is no cost to OSU individuals who use Poll Everywhere. Information on account creation is now available to the OSU community.

Canvas integration

The Poll Everywhere/Canvas integration has been installed and is ready for instructors to use starting Spring term. To learn more about integration, please review this help article and watch the webinar recording on Poll Everywhere/Canvas integration.

Poll Everywhere plugin in PowerPoint

The Poll Everywhere plugin in PowerPoint has been installed in OSU’s general-use classroom computers. When you open PowerPoint in the classroom, you should see a Poll Everywhere tab on the top toward the right side. If you do not see it or if you run into issues using the plugin, please please reach out to Academic Technologies using the contact method in the “How to get support” section below.

Pre-term checklist

Take a moment to review the Poll Everywhere Pre-term checklist. The checklist walks you through essential preparation steps to minimize potential issues in launching polling questions in the classroom. Additionally, it offers basic troubleshooting tips for common problems.

Spring office hours and workshops

UIT-Academic Technologies will offer online office hours for Poll Everywhere early adopters every Friday, 10 to 11 a.m., during Spring term. The first office hour will be on Friday, April 4.

Spring term workshops on Poll Everywhere are now open for registration. Please check the workshop and webinar page for registration links.

Is there anyway to use Poll Everywhere outside of the slide-based format? Any traction on getting Poll Everywhere to add question types similar to Top Hat’s click on target heat map capability?

Hi Annie, great question! You do not have to launch Poll Everywhere questions in slides. You can open Poll Everywhere in a browser to launch questions or use the Presenter app. Please take a look at this article: https://mysupport.oregonstate.edu/esp?id=kb_article_view&sysparm_article=KB0011677 Regarding heatmap, I have submitted a feature request and I’ve talked to 2 of their product team members regarding this feature (and a few others we’d like to have). They acknowledged the value of this feature and said they will look into this. Currently there is not estimated time for this feature release. I will keep you posted on any updates I have. If you have any further questions, please reach out to our team (directions listed in the “”How to get support” section above. Thank you!
