I believe my recent job application experience may be a bit different than most anyone else, so I will start with a little bit of background surrounding my work history. I have worked for the same company since 2014 in the Amusements/Theme Park Industry. I originally started in a seasonal and then part time position while working on my undergraduate degree. I chose to work for this company originally because there were several people I knew who worked there and had positive things to say and the position also offered flexible scheduling that fit my class schedule. I have continued to work there because of the values and culture that the company represents, the opportunities for continued growth, and I really enjoy being in an environment where no two days are exactly the same and you never know exactly what to expect.
Fortunately for me, the company that I work for typically is very focused on promoting internally and investing in the people that work there. I have been promoted and have taken on additional responsibilities throughout my career. Most recently, earlier this year I was able to apply and interview for an exempt level position. Again, this process for me was probably very different than the typical job application experience considering I have already worked for the company for several years and have been taking steps and growing toward the role I was applying for. What I really got out of this application experience was the ability to sit down with a couple managers from different departments and just share my thoughts and ideas with them about how we can improve how efficiently we operate. I just really enjoy the fact that the company I work for is very encouraging, supportive, and open to new ideas and suggestions. One of my biggest roles now is operating as a hiring manager for my departments while figuring out how to recruit and retain our employees and hopefully they want to stay for the same reasons I have for so long!
