Writing Exercise #8

Reading the commentary on it was really helpful to me because it gave me a way to look at the article in a way that seemed more “personal.” Not only that, but it showed me what the reality of genomes was like back then, compared to now. They always say listen to your elders, and this was kind of a way for me to do that, I guess you could say. What stood out for me the most was the graphic in the beginning of the commentary. This made it really easy for me to understand what was going on, and since I’m more of a visual learner it made it just that much more easy for me to grasp. My understanding of sequencing technology is limited, but I think comparing the status quo to back then, the researchers had all the drive they needed, they just didn’t have the horses for it. One thing I do see here though, (and I question) is that since we have access to such powerful technology these days, will our drive not be as strong as it once was when we didn’t have the technology we have now? Or will it be the opposite?
