All Honors College students are invited to a Dean and Friends conversation with Rich Smith, ’85, on Wed. Feb. 12 from 4:00-4:50 p.m. PST in LInC 343 and over Zoom. NEW TODAY! Online scavenger hunt: Winter Wanderland
 Join the Honors College for an interactive online scavenger hunt from Mon. Jan. 13 – Fri. Jan. 24. Using the link found here, fill out each of the questions on the form and find some cool spots, learn important information, and discover great offices you may not have previously known in the fall term. Students who complete at least 15 of the tasks will be entered to win a prize, and students that complete all 25 tasks will receive two entries. Questions about Winter Wanderland? UPCOMING! Ask an Honors Alum Lunch with Dan Euhus ’99
All honors students are invited to join Honors College 1999 alum Dan Euhus for lunch in the SLUG on Tues. Jan. 21. Dan is a subject matter expert in the ethylene business working at Dow Chemicals, and he received his Honors Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering. He has held a number of roles in his career in the areas of operations and new technology development and application, including time at Shell and Chevron, and he was an associate professor of chemical engineering at Oregon State University. While at OSU, he helped created the EnergyIQ colloquium with Drs. Skip Rochefort and Dan Arp. At this informal lunch conversation, Dan will field any and all questions, including about graduate school, recruiting, work in engineering, and more. Please RSVP to bailey.garvin@oregonstate.edu

NEW! Honors College Emergency Grant & Experiential Learning Scholarship
The Honors College Emergency Grant supports students facing unexpected expenses, including housing, meals, course materials, healthcare, vehicle repairs, and travel for family emergencies. Grants are up to $500 per term, with a limit of two grants during your time in the HC. Honors College differential tuition is not covered.
For support with thesis research, conference travel, or HC international opportunities, apply for the Experiential Learning Scholarship via ScholarDollars.

HC Experiential Learning Scholarship
The Honors College Experiential Learning Scholarship supports student engagement in the honors thesis (thesis proposal required), attendance at professional or academic conferences, payment of non-tuition fees associated with honors courses, or participation in an honors study abroad program. Applications are reviewed based on need, and the maximum award is $750. See here for additional information. Applications can be submitted through ScholarDollars and evaluated on a rolling basis.

Albrecht Jander seeks a motivated student to develop computer models of spin wave and acoustic wave interactions for new signal processing devices. OSU Student Energy Analyst Position
Would you be interested in an on-campus job working with industry clients to reduce energy use and improve productivity, while applying what you are learning in your classes? The OSU Energy Efficiency Center (EEC) is looking for motivated student energy/technical analysts to work part-time during the school year (10-15 hrs/week) and during the summer (30-40 hrs/week). The OSU EEC offers comprehensive, student-led, on-site energy and productivity assessments to small and medium-sized manufacturers through a US Department of Energy funded program. Student teams advised by engineering faculty visit manufacturers and seek ways to increase their productivity and reduce energy use and waste. These engineering analyses and improvement recommendations are compiled into a report and delivered to the client. University Legislative Scholars Applications Open
The University Legislative Scholars (ULS) program offers a year-long opportunity to engage with public policy at the state and federal levels. Students can join tuition-free or for two credits per term. Participants meet with legislators, learn about government careers, visit the State Capitol, and build connections with peers. Looking for an exciting way to enhance your undergraduate experience? Consider joining our Research and Extension Experiences for Undergraduates (REEU) program! This USDA-funded opportunity combines undergraduate research, professional development, and a life-changing service-learning trip to Puerto Rico over spring break (Mar. 21-30, 2025).

Dr. MLK, Jr. Day Of Service – Registration Open!
This year, Community Engagement & Leadership invites you to join us on Sat. Jan. 25, for our annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. Dr. MLK, Jr. Day of Service is about coming together to honor Dr. King’s life and legacy and help further his dream for peace by serving our neighbors and strengthening our communities through community service projects. Oregon State students, staff, faculty, and their children/dependents are invited to participate in this event and celebration. Volunteer with the Honors College at Stone Soup kitchen
The Honors College has reserved spots for students interested in volunteering at Stone Soup Corvallis! Stone Soup Corvallis provides free, hot, nutritious meals 365 days a year, no questions asked, in a manner that honors the dignity of each person we serve in our diverse community. Students will help prepare and serve meals and help with clean up at the conclusion of their day. This project will take place on Sat., January 25th from 9 a.m. – 11:30 a.m., with check-in at 8:15 a.m. at the MU Horizon Room. Transportation to and from projects will be provided to volunteers, along with a light breakfast, snacks, and hot lunch. Register at beav.es/GnY.

Truckin’ Tuesdays at the Memorial Union
Truckin’ Tuesday is community event hosted by the Memorial Union Activities Team focused on bringing different types of foods to campus through food trucks! Most Tuesday’s there will be a variety of trucks next to the MU Quad open to students, staff, and the public. This is a chance for people of all ages on the OSU campus to try new foods, support local businesses, and add a little bit of sparkle to their Tuesdays.

The Basic Needs Center (BNC) has a Textbook Lending Library open to all on-campus students that includes books, calculators, chemistry model sets, and more. Visit their Textbook Lending Program website to see resources available at the BNC. Visit the BNC in-person at Champinefu Lodge to check out course materials.

The Honors College main office in LInC 450 is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. HC staff is on hand during business hours to assist with questions, help with scheduling appointments or just chat and share some free candy. Honors College Advising Resources
From guiding you through the thesis process, to monitoring and supporting your honors degree progress, your honors academic advising team is here to help! As a reminder, though you are only required to meet with your Honors College academic advisor once per year, feel free to meet with your HC academic advisor whenever you have questions. Below, we’ll leave you with some tips and resources that should be helpful over the coming terms:

Honors College student learning space
The Honors College student learning space, the SLUG, opens Tuesday, September 24. Located in Learning Innovation Center 340, the SLUG offers students study spaces, snacks and free printing. Hours are 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursdays, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, noon to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday. For the first weeks, there will be minor renovations in the SLUG.

“Forgot Your Lunch?” Station Available in SLUG
The Honors College is back with a “Forgot Your Lunch?” station for you to have a snack or light lunch if you ever need it. Whether you need food because you forgot your lunch, are low on money or simply need a snack, please help yourself to this free resource. The resource is self-serve and can be accessed any time that the SLUG is open in the kitchen area.

The student computer lab and lounge (the SLUG) on the third floor of LInC 340 will be open:

  • Monday-Thursday – 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Friday – 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Saturday – noon to 6 p.m.
  • Sunday – 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

These resources are available throughout the term.
