Starting Today come meet other students, volunteer, practice leadership, plan events or get involved with the Honors College this fall! The Honors College Student Association holds general meetings every Monday from 7 to 8 p.m. in LInC 303. NEW! Volunteers Needed for Thesis Social Event
Are you passionate about your honors thesis? Would you like to share your experience in research or the thesis process with underclassmen? HCSA is looking for individuals passionate about their work who are willing to share in front of a small group of peers and talk about their project. This HCSA event aims to help underclassman understand what a thesis is really about and gives them the opportunity to ask questions to people who have recently been through the same process. NEW! HC Bob Ross Paint Night
Calling all artists! Join us on Tuesday, November 7th from 6-7:30 p.m. in LInC 345 and 344 for an evening of Bob Ross painting! Meet new friends, paint along to a fall themed Bob Ross episode, and vote to crown the evening’s “Bob Ross” and “Picasso” artists, whose art will be hung on display in the SLUG. There will be food, drinks, prizes, and art supplies provided – however, feel free to bring your own supplies and show us what you got! Registration is limited to 40 slots – register here.

Looking to learn about research opportunities? Faculty Research Showcases are an excellent way to connect with faculty members, learn more about their research, and potentially get involved in projects that could be the basis of an HC thesis. Even if you don’t yet feel ready to begin research or are not sure about your interests, attending these events help you to explore opportunities and make connections. SLUG Renovations

The Alpha Theta chapter is thrilled to introduce the Peter Bañuelos Legacy Scholarship. In loving memory of their dear brother, Peter Bañuelos, they have established a $500 scholarship to honor his legacy and the positive influence he had on their fraternity. This scholarship stands as a perpetual tribute to his life and a means to support members of their community. 2023-24 STARR Award Program is Now Open
Oregon NASA Space Grant offers students who are interested in space science/aerospace related careers and are attending our member community colleges and 4-year universities, an opportunity to apply for $5,000 awards that enhance and supplement their academic study in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) and STEM education. Individuals from underserved and underrepresented groups in STEM fields, women, and individuals with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply. Applications are due Monday, Nov. 6. HC Differential Tuition Emergency Grant
The Honors College encourages students experiencing unusual financial challenges to apply for a one-term Honors College Differential Tuition and Emergency Grant of $500. This is not a scholarship and is designed to provide short-term, immediate support. Contact bailey.garvin@oregonstate.edu or an Honors College advisor with questions.
HC Experiential Award Application
Honors students who have submitted a thesis proposal are eligible to apply for an Honors Experiential Scholarship of up to $750 in support of participation at a professional conference or engagement in thesis research. Contact Kevin Stoller at kevin.stoller@oregonstate.edu with questions.

State of the Coast is a chance to have fun and learn while listening to informative talks on current marine science and policy issues, participate in hands-on activities, and network with research, industry, and community leaders. This is Oregon’s coastal conference for everyone! Darryl Thomas will deliver the keynote address on Bridging Art and Science for Inclusive Communication. The State of the Coast conference is in Newport, OR on Friday and Saturday, November 3-4. Students can register for $25. Corvallis Environmental Center (Job Opportunity)
The Corvallis Environmental Center is looking for two bilingual Spanish-speaking educators to join their team. These educators will play a vital role in both the Farm to School and after-school environmental education programs for elementary-aged children, covering the school year and summer camps. They will deliver instruction in both English and Spanish as necessary. Responsibilities encompass various activities such as classroom cooking education, garden classes, field trips, and leading lessons and games focused on ecology, science, and skill-building during summer camps and environmental education programs. Additionally, the position may involve participation in other education programs, serving as a teacher or substitute when required, which includes Schools Out Adventures, NaturePlay preschool, field trips, and custom education programs. AYA, the Women of Color (WoC) Initiative from the Hattie Redmond Women and Gender Center will be hosting a WoC Discussion held bi-weekly (ODD Weeks) on Wednesdays from 2-3 PM at the Women & Gender Center. This group will be co-facilitated with Shaznin Daruwalla and Chanale Propst from Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). Snacks and drinks provided! Diversity Research Virtual Lighting Talks
The Research Office and the Office of Institutional Diversity invite you to the Diversity Research Virtual Lighting Talks. This virtual event will take place on November 8th from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm. Participate in a research study exploring the role comfort food plays in identity development and maintenance among first and second generation Latino immigrants in Western Oregon. Borrow your Textbooks for Free!
The Basic Needs Center (BNC) has a Textbook Lending Library open to all on-campus students that includes books, calculators, chemistry model sets, and more. Visit their Textbook Lending Program website to see resources available at the BNC. Starting Monday, September 18, visit the BNC in-person at Champinefu Lodge to check out course materials.

The Honors College main office in LInC 450 is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. HC staff is on hand during business hours to assist with questions, help with scheduling appointments or just chat and share some free candy. “Forgot Your Lunch?” Station Available in SLUG
The Honors College is back with a “Forgot Your Lunch?” station for you to have a snack or light lunch if you ever need it. Whether you need food because you forgot your lunch, are low on money or simply need a snack, please help yourself to this free resource. The resource is self-serve and can be accessed any time that the SLUG is open in the kitchen area. The student computer lab and lounge (the SLUG) on the third floor of LInC 340 will be open:
- Monday-Thursday – 7:30 a.m.-9:00 p.m.
- Friday – 7:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
- Saturday – noon- 6:00 p.m.
- Sunday – 10:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m.
