The Honors College Student Association holds general meetings every Monday from 7 to 8 p.m. in LInC 303. We’re looking for new students to join the leadership team and have specific positions open for first-year students! Come learn more about HCSA! All HC students are welcome to join.

TODAY! Honors College Pathways: Setting Yourself Up for Success in Industry
All Honors College students are invited to a Zoom conversation with Oregon State University honors program alum Eric L. Vogel ’78 on Monday, October 9 from 4:00-4:50 p.m. Pacific Time on “Setting yourself up for success in industry.” Eric will lead a conversation on industry priorities, attributes of successful engineers and employees in industry and understanding roles in first jobs. THIS WEEK! Bowling with the HC – Fall Family Weekend

NEW! DUE THIS WEEK! Submit your artistic work to Scribendi, the Honors Literary and Fine Art Magazine
Scribendi is a magazine published by University of New Mexico that feature work from Honor College Students across the Western US. You are encouraged to submit works in Visual Art, Photography, Poetry, Short Fiction, Creative Nonfiction, Foreign Language (with translation) and Open Media. Submissions are due Oct. 13 and submission details can be found here. Students selected as a award winner will receive up to $250. 

NEW! Join the Honors College Student Leadership Circle

The Honors College invites participation from all honors students in the 2023-2024 HC Student Leadership Circle. The SLC advises staff and leadership on the development, implementation and assessment of initiatives, programs and opportunities. Students can find details and sign up to contribute to one or more fall term projects here. New opportunities will be posted at the beginning of winter and spring terms. Please register by Friday, October 20th. If you have any questions, contact Honors College Assistant Dean of External Relations and Student Engagement Kevin Stoller at kevin.stoller@oregonstate.edu.

HC Fall Festivity
You won’t want to miss this event! Join us on Tuesday, October 24 from 5-7 p.m. in the LInC quad for food, drinks, games, music, drawings, prizes and more. This annual tradition is a chance for the entire Honors College community to celebrate the start of the academic year. Meet new friends, challenge HC faculty to a basketball match, or paint a pumpkin to put in your room! There will be carnival-styled food with lots of activities. SLUG Renovations
In late October the SLUG will be undergoing minor renovations. It will still be open, however, computer usage will be limited and it may be noisy. Any questions about the renovation can be emailed to Laura Blackwell at laura.blackwell@oregonstate.edu.

Scholarship & Financial Aid Opportunities

HC Differential Tuition Emergency Grant
The Honors College encourages students experiencing unusual financial challenges to apply for a one-term Honors College Differential Tuition and Emergency Grant of $500. This is not a scholarship and is designed to provide short-term, immediate support. Contact bailey.garvin@oregonstate.edu or an Honors College advisor with questions.

HC Experiential Award Application
Honors students who have submitted a thesis proposal are eligible to apply for an Honors Experiential Scholarship of up to $750 in support of participation at a professional conference or engagement in thesis research. Contact Kevin Stoller at kevin.stoller@oregonstate.edu with questions.

THIS WEEK! College of AgSci Elevator Pitch Workshop 
Finishing up your research/ thesis but don’t know how to talk about it. College of AgSci is hosting a workshop about how to create a poster and give an elevator pitch. This can be helpful for the HC thesis external communication requirement. Are you interested in making your campus a safer and healthier place … and getting paid to do it? Join the Center for Advocacy, Prevention & Education (CAPE)’s brand new Peer Education Program! CAPE Peer Educators will work collaboratively to develop peer-led educational programming and events centered on gender-based violence prevention and sexual health. Join the University Legislative Scholars Program
The University Legislative Scholars (ULS) is a year-long experiential learning program that enables students to engage in public policy issues at the state level while also increasing student advocacy in the Oregon legislative process. NEW! A Peace of My Mind: Exploring Belonging One Story at a Time
Join us for community exploration of community and belonging as Corvallis hosts award-winning photographer John Noltner from October 16 to 22. As a storyteller Noltner has worked on four continents gathering stories of human courage, grace, and resilience. Now he is coming to Corvallis to ask: “What does belonging mean to you?” This community building experience will feature photography exhibits, photography studio sessions, and a keynote talk and dialogue — all centered around belonging. This programming series is being offered as part of the multimedia arts project  A Peace of My Mind.  All programs are free and open to the public. Borrow your Textbooks for Free!
The Basic Needs Center (BNC) has a Textbook Lending Library open to all on-campus students that includes books, calculators, chemistry model sets, and more. Visit their Textbook Lending Program website to see resources available at the BNC. Starting Monday, September 18, visit the BNC in-person at Champinefu Lodge to check out course materials.

HC Resources

The Honors College main office in LInC 450 is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. HC staff is on hand during business hours to assist with questions, help with scheduling appointments or just chat and share some free candy. You can also get in touch with the main office by contacting honors.college@oregonstate.edu or by calling 541.737.6400. 

HC Study Groups
Need a way to deepen your understanding of course material, discuss challenging concepts and study for upcoming exams and assignments with your fellow Beavs? Sign up for the fall term HC study groups! Study groups are a great way to receive extra academic support in any of your courses. If you would like to participate in fall term HC study groups, please email bailey.garvin@oregonstate.edu.

“Forgot Your Lunch?” Station Available in SLUG
The Honors College is back with a “Forgot Your Lunch?” station for you to have a snack or light lunch if you ever need it. Whether you need food because you forgot your lunch, are low on money or simply need a snack, please help yourself to this free resource. The resource is self-serve and can be accessed any time that the SLUG is open in the kitchen area. The student computer lab and lounge (the SLUG) on the third floor of LInC 340 will be open:

  • Monday-Thursday – 7:30 a.m.-9:00 p.m.
  • Friday – 7:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
  • Saturday – noon- 6:00 p.m.
  • Sunday – 10:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m.

These resources are available throughout the term.
