THIS WEEK! HCSA Discussion about Equity in the Field of Computer Science
Join the Honors College Student Association for an engaging discussion-style event about the challenges of equity in the evolving field of computer science. We will delve into various topics such as the potential risks of machine learning to encode harmful stereotypes, unequal representation in computer science and data privacy. We are joined by Puja Agrawal and Andrew Anderson, two graduate students who are doing research in the field of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). Food and beverages will be provided. HCSA Dice and Desserts
Come join HCSA on Tuesday May 9, at 6:30 p.m. in the West Hall Lounge for a fun night of playing board game and eating desserts. On Friday, May 26, HCSA is putting on their annual Spring Gala. At the gala awards will be given out to one person in each of the following, student-nominated categories, HC community member, student leader and faculty mentor. Stage 3 Studio Dates
Have a thesis mentor but need an extra nudge completing and submitting your thesis proposal? Befuddled by the thesis proposal, agreement or timeline? Need some dedicated time to work on you proposal? Drop by for a brief overview of the proposal process, get your questions answered and take advantage of the time to receive guidance, consult, write, and learn from your peers. Bring your ideas, questions, and, if available, a draft of your proposal. Stop by on Tuesday, May 16 in LInC 350 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.

DEADLINE TODAY! Roundhouse Foundation Marine Studies Program Innovation Lab Scholarship and Internship Fund
The Roundhouse Foundation Marine Studies Innovation Lab Scholarship supports Oregon State University undergraduate students in their second year or more of study who are participating in a paid internship with the Hatfield Marine Science Center (HMSC) Innovation Lab (iLab) in Newport, Oregon. There are up to three awards of $18,640 given to scholars who qualify. Students must submit their application through OSU ScholarDollars. The deadline to apply is Monday, May 1. SNAP Outreach at the BNC
Students may be eligible for $234 a month in grocery funds! SNAP is a federal nutrition benefits program and the Basic Needs Center Center at Oregon State assists with applications! For more information visit the SNAP link here.
HC Differential Tuition Emergency Grant
The Honors College encourages students experiencing unusual financial challenges to apply for a one-term Honors College Differential Tuition and Emergency Grant of $500. This is not a scholarship and is designed to provide short-term, immediate support. Contact bailey.garvin@oregonstate.edu or an Honors College advisor with questions.
HC Experiential Award Application
Honors students who have submitted a thesis proposal are eligible to apply for an Honors Experiential Scholarship of up to $750 in support of participation at a professional conference or engagement in thesis research. Contact Kevin Stoller at kevin.stoller@oregonstate.edu with questions.

NEW! OSU Energy Efficiency Center Job Opportunity
The OSU Energy Efficiency Center (EEC) is looking for motivated student energy/technical analysts to work part-time during the school year (10-12 hrs/week) and during the summer (30-40 hrs/week). Student teams advised by engineering faculty visit manufacturers and seek ways to increase their productivity and reduce energy use and waste. These engineering analyses and improvement recommendations are compiled into a report and delivered to the client. Fujifilm Dimatix is seeking an enthusiastic and thorough person to engage cross-functional teams including representatives from various groups under Operations to help build and administer a more robust training program for its production technicians and trainers. This essential role will support production technicians, technician trainers, leads, and supervisors to insure training coverage and competency across all production shifts. The Training Coordinator will manage training and certification activities for production technicians throughout the training phases, as well as onboarding of engineers and general staff. DEADLINE TODAY! Present Research or Creative Works at the CUE Showcase
The Office of URSA is excited to announce that registration for Oregon State’s 2023 Celebrating Undergraduate Excellence is now open! CUE is an annual showcase for Oregon State undergraduates to present their research and creative projects to the community. Students from all academic disciplines, in all years of study, and at all stages of research or creative work are invited to present a research poster on Thursday, May 19, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the MU Ballroom. NickelBlock Forecasting Remote Internship Opportunities
NickelBlock Forecasting is a small company that publicly serves the central Gulf Coast with daily weather forecasts and an app. This is a remote internship focusing on Python development, HTML/PHP/ web development and App development. Interns have historically spent between 10 and 15 hours per week working on projects and helping out with brainstorming. Interns will be granted a $300 ‘scholarship’ at the end of the summer to help with books in the fall. While our company doesn’t have much money, we want to help where we can. Become a Beaver Connect Peer Mentor
Beaver Connect is recruiting Peer Mentors for the 2023-2024 academic year. Peer Mentors will help connect new-to-Oregon State students, peers, and faculty members in an effort to ease the student transition to college. Students are placed on teams of up to 4 new-to-Oregon State students, 1 peer mentor and 1 faculty member for mentorship, guidance, and community building in their first year at Oregon State. The Peer Mentor job application is currently open until Monday, May 15!
Become an Academics for Student Athletes Tutor
Academics for Student Athletes has some openings for tutors this upcoming term. These are paid on-campus positions that offer flexible schedules. Tutor applicants must be Sophomore standing and hold an overall GPA of 3.0 or above. Most tutoring will be performed in-person during Spring term, but hybrid options are available. Student Research Assistant and Student Programmer Job Opportunities
The student research assistant’s primary duties consist of conducting literary research, synthesizing literature, creating annotated bibliographies, preparing manuscripts, and attending weekly meetings. Knowledge of descriptive and inferential statistics is preferred. The student programmer will program an app prototype for easy integration into Canvas, help create instructional videos, and provide research support. Skills preferred are knowledge of HTML/CSS, Java, JavaScript, and python. Both jobs are an average of 20 hours a week for the 23-24 academic year. NEW! Conversation with Scholar Noam Chomsky
On Tuesday, May 16 at 12 p.m. in the MU Horizon Room, please join the Center for Global Health, Muslim Student Association, and Honors College for a conversation with renowned scholar Noam Chomsky about his recent book, Notes on Resistance. Noam Chomsky is Institute Professor (emeritus) in the Department of Linguistics and Philosophy at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Laureate Professor of Linguistics and Agnese Nelms Haury Chair in the Program in Environment and Social Justice at University of Arizona. The event will discuss critical real-world issues, such as lessons we can learn from the pandemic, global challenges we are currently facing, and advice for student activism. There will be a 40-minute discussion followed by an opportunity for Q/A from the audience. Make sure to RSVP here.

The last few weeks of the term can be tough and it’s common to experience some burnout around this time. Academic Coaches can help you develop a personalized plan to complete coursework on top of your extra projects and exams at the end of the term. They can also support you in identifying what you need to stay motivated and take care of yourself. The easiest way to make an appointment with a coach is to schedule online.
Ag and Natural Resources Day
The 2023 Ag & Natural Resources Day will be held on the MU Quad and SEC Plaza on Tuesday, May 9 with most of the activities happening between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. There will be animals, tractors, chainsaws, mariachi music, line dancing, food and much more. Anytime Anywhere: MySSP @ OSU App
Anytime Anywhere: MySSP @ OSU is an app that gives all OSU students, including Ecampus students, 24/7 access by text or phone with a licensed mental health counselor (MySSP stands for “My Student Support Program”). The app makes it easy to schedule short-term counseling appointments with the same ongoing counselor and provides educational materials covering mental health topics. Students can communicate with a counselor in five different languages (Mandarin, Cantonese, French, Spanish or English); additional language options are available upon request. The Honors College main office in LInC 450 is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. HC staff is on hand during business hours to assist with questions, help with scheduling appointments or just chat and share some free candy.
