HCSA Events This Week

NEW! Join HCSA & Honors X – Free Ice Cream!
 Looking for an opportunity to meet other students and get involved with the Honors College this fall? The Honors College Student Association holds its general meetings every Monday from 6 to 7 p.m. in LInC 345 beginning Sept. 27. All HC students are welcome to join! At the first meeting, HCSA will also have ice cream for everyone to enjoy!

Immediately after HCSA meetings are Honors X meetings from 7 to 7:30 p.m. Honors X is a group of students focused on creating a sense of community amongst first-year students by hosting fun events, service events and learning and development opportunities across multiple subjects.

HC Announcements and Events

TOMORROW! New Student Walk and Convocation
Please plan to meet on the lawn between the Learning Innovation Center and Austin Hall at 3:50 p.m. tomorrow, Sept. 21, to walk to the Memorial Union Quad for the New Student Walk and Convocation. Dean Doolen will escort all incoming Honors College students in this OSU Welcome Week tradition!

NEW! HC Outdoor Movie Night THIS WEEK
On Friday, Sept. 24, the HC will offer a viewing of Black Widow at 9 p.m. just outside the LInC on the Corvallis campus. Refreshments will be provided. Feel free to bring a picnic blanket to sit on if you do not wish to sit in a chair. Please RSVP here or use the QR code below.

NEW! HC Welcome Tours THIS WEEK
The HC will be offering small-group walking tours of downtown Corvallis or biking tours of Bald Hill Natural Area, all led by HC Ambassadors. To register and review safety guidelines, please visit the link here. Welcome tours will be offered on Saturday, Sept. 25 and Sunday, Sept. 26.

NEW! HC High Adventure Challenge Course with Adventure Leadership Institute THIS WEEK
The HC High Adventure Challenge Course will take place from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 26 at the OSU Challenge Course located at 3800 SW Jefferson Way, Corvallis. All participants must first sign a waiver and RSVP here. Please watch your OSU email for communication from the Adventure Leadership Institute about this program waiver.  

NEW! Honors College Student Learning Space – the SLUG
Welcome, honors students! The HC student learning space in the Learning Innovation Center, room 340 – called the SLUG – is open today! The SLUG features study and social areas, more than 20 computers for student use, a scanner and a friendly HC student staff member who can help with any questions you might have. In addition, honors students can print for free when using SLUG computers! The SLUG also offers a small kitchen. Bring your own coffee pods and brew up a cup in our new Keurig machine! The HC Forgot Your Lunch food cabinet is available as well with free snacks for anyone who needs it.

The SLUG is open Monday-Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Saturday from noon to 6:00 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. All students visiting the SLUG will be expected to sign in and wear masks while using the facility. NEXT WEEK! HC Fall Welcome
The HC Fall Welcome will take place at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 28. This annual tradition is a chance for the entire Honors College community to celebrate the start of the academic year. There will be music, snacks, prizes, games and a free HC welcome gift while supplies last. Please RSVP here or use the QR code below to take part!  

NEW! Fall Term Faculty Research Showcases Coming Soon!
Faculty Research Showcases are an excellent way to connect with faculty members, learn more about their research and potentially get involved in projects that could be the basis of an HC thesis. Even if you don’t yet feel ready to begin research or are not sure about your interests, attending these events helps you explore opportunities and make connections. Dress in attire you are comfortable making a first impression with – even if over video conference. RSVP for a Research Showcase here

Campus-Wide Opportunities

NEW! Join the OSU Adventure Club!
The OSU Adventure Club is founded on the principles of experiential learning, and using human-powered outdoor pursuits to expand knowledge, leadership, service and community. Join the club! No experience necessary.

This is a student-led organization formed in association with the Adventure Leadership Institute™ to connect students with students through outdoor adventure. From rock climbing to snowshoeing, whitewater rafting to backpacking, the Adventure Club has it all.  Participation in Adventure Club meetings, activities and events are open to currently enrolled students at OSU.

Annual membership is $10 for current OSU students or Rec Sports members.
The Adventure Club contributes to the educational mission of the University by offering learning opportunities for students pursuing leadership and facilitation certificates through the Adventure Leadership Institute™. The Adventure Club provides a rich learning opportunity for students in the Adventure Leadership Institute to practice and apply their developing skills as leaders and facilitators of adventure pursuits. Executive positions and activity leadership is provided by members of ALI™ in pursuit of leadership certificates.

The OSU Adventure Club is a program of the Department of Recreational Sports with advisory from the Adventure Leadership Institute.

NEW! Updated SLUG Hours
Welcome back, Honors students! If you would like to arrange a meeting with an HC staff member, please call 541-737-6400 or email honors.college@oregonstate.edu.

Fall term SLUG hours have changed! Here are the new times:
– Sunday – 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
– Monday-Thursday – 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
– Friday – 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
– Saturday – noon to 6 p.m.

NEW! West & Sackett Hall Drop-In Advising Hours
Fall term advising hours will be hosted in West and Sackett Halls, every Friday, beginning Sept. 24. Honors College academic advisors can assist you in making decisions regarding your academic, career and personal goals. All Honors students are welcome to drop in—no appointment is necessary. Please drop by with specific questions or just to say hello!

Emily Garcia is the Student Engagement Coordinator for the Honors College! She is available to answer general HC questions, connect you to the proper resources and help you find community within the Honors College. Recognizing the interdependence of all members of our community and the responsibilities as an HC student, the Honors College Community Compact outlines health and safety expectations and requirements for the upcoming academic year. This compact is designed to help protect our campus and local communities from the risks posed by COVID-19.
