Pacific High School Horticulture Program – Putting Garden Donations to Good Use

By Diana Gorman

The Rotary club of Port Orford was looking for a place to reuse several items from a previous garden project. The items had only seen one year of use and were still in excellent condition. Master Gardener Trainee and Rotarian Diana Gorman visited Pacific High School during a Master Gardener Class Field trip to PHS and realized that it was the perfect place!

Rotary transported and donated over 100 feet of ½” drip irrigation supply tubing, several feet of ¼” distribution tubing, adjustable spray heads, various other drip irrigation fittings, a PSI regulator and three steel raised beds to Pacific High School. With some modification they will be a perfect addition to the PHS garden!

Master Gardener Wendy Tomko and Trainee Diana Gorman worked together to modify and install a segment of irrigation to water the school’s small beds of flowers around the perimeter of the garden. Wendy also installed a timer on the drip irrigation system to make watering even easier. The plan is to expand the system to water even more locations in the future.
