Our annual plant sale on May 9th was a giant success! We raised approximately $12k for our many projects and expenses this coming year, giving us the needed resources to expand our offerings and continue developing our demonstration garden.
Our CCMGA volunteers came out in force on both Friday, May 8th to help set up, and for the sale on Saturday. Over 30 volunteers came each day. There were a lot of tasks and everyone was appreciated!
The plant sale is a year-round endeavor, with propagation beginning in July for next year’s plant sale. We get cuttings from quite a few gardens in our area, and those cuttings must be prepped and planted on the same day. It takes quite a few volunteers to make that happen each time we get cuttings, so if you’re interested in helping with that, please let us know and we’ll make sure you know when we will be doing that. Also, if you would be willing to let us get cuttings from your garden, please let us know. We need a big variety of plants, including natives.
Kudos to the veggie team led by Frank Furtaw. They grew a huge number of veggie and herb plants accounting for about 1/3 of our sales. They begin with seeds around February and care for and up-pot the plants until the sale. Frank plans to travel next year, so we’re looking for a new veggie coordinator.
Ali and Ginny are also planning to step back from being the organizers of the plant sale. They both will continue working in the greenhouse and garden, and will volunteer at the plant sale but we need some volunteers to take over the coordination. Please let Jerry Herbage know if you are interested in being more involved or would like to help coordinate the sale next year.
We thank all of the people who contributed to the success of the plant sale!
