Monthly Garden Tips May – June 2026

The OSU Extension Service’s Monthly Garden Calendars were first published in December 2020, and reviewed in 2025.

It’s also worth looking at the OSU Garden Future link https://extension.oregonstate.edu/garden-future, especially the links at Resources for gardening in a changing climate https://extension.oregonstate.edu/garden-future/resources-gardening-changing-climate. This is a project that is gathering/disseminating information on the effects of a shifting climate, particularly as observed by Oregon gardeners.

May is a good time to check and repair any irrigations that you may count on over the summer. Vegetable planting recommendations from the garden calendar link includes:

  • Oregon coast: Snap beans, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cantaloupes, pickling cucumbers, dill, kale, parsnips, peppers, pumpkins, summer and winter squash, sweet corn and tomatoes.

Very good reads specific to our area are Growing vegetables in the Pacific Northwest coastal region and The best vegetables to grow in Oregon’s coastal climate.

In June, if you planted early vegetables then, harvesting/thinning new plantings of lettuce, onion and chard will improve later production. Trellises for tomatoes and vines can also be more easily done now. Many specific suggestions on this topic are given in the June link below.

These links contain helpful tips for gardening, pest monitoring and management, and timing for spring plantings.
