Monthly Garden Tips July – Aug 2026

The OSU Extension Service’s Monthly Garden Calendars were first published in December 2020, and reviewed in 2025.

It’s also worth looking at the OSU Garden Future link https://extension.oregonstate.edu/garden-future, especially the links at Resources for gardening in a changing climate https://extension.oregonstate.edu/garden-future/resources-gardening-changing-climate. This is a project that is gathering/disseminating information on the effects of a shifting climate, particularly as observed by Oregon gardeners.

June tips are primarily concerned with watering carefully and summer pest management. In general watering deeply and infrequently encourages root growth. Check the July calendar for more watering tips.

In August monitor garden irrigation closely so that plants don’t dry out. Garden pests many need attention, but it’s always best to first support the health of the plant and then try the least toxic solutions if needed. Both the July and August calendar have detailed suggestions.

As an aside, in the dry end-of-summer months it is worth evaluating your garden with an eye towards fire resistant plants and design. In Curry County, the woods are never that far from home.
