Welcome to the home page for the Coastal Version of the Woodland Management in Western Oregon Shortcourse!

The shortcourse is offered by Oregon State University’s Forestry and Natural Resources (FNR) Extension agents serving western Oregon. During this course we will address woodland conditions of western Oregon, but will have regional flavor according to the Counties served by the FNR agents hosting each shortcourse as they rotate around the region.

This seven-session course is ideal for people who are new to taking care of woodland or forested property. The class provides a broad introduction to woodland types, tending practices and terminology to help you take care of your property and get things done.  Topics covered:  

Class 1 (September 10): Getting to know your property: trees and forests to know on the Oregon Coast

Class 2 (September 17): Getting to know your property: assessing your site and your goals

Class 3 ( September 24): What’s going on in your woods: wildlife use of forests

Class 4 (October 1): What’s going on in your woods: forest health

Class 5 (October 8): Taking care of your woods: management techniques including planting, weed control

Class 6 (October 15): Taking care of your woods: tending you woods, thinning and marketing wood.

Class 7 (October 22): Getting it done: laws and regulations, fire preparedness

Each session includes an hour and a half session designed in our remote format.
