Building And Maintaining The Website
Developing a website that communicates with a server and a database to present constantly updating information, along with recommendations for users that use local data, will take around 400 hours of work to develop. After the website is developed, it must be continually financed and updated in order to stay in working condition. The table below lists all developmental and continual costs that are required for the website.
Item | Description | Cost |
Website Development | The average rate for software development is $50 / hour | $20,000 |
Domain Registration | The cost of acquiring the websites domain name | $20 / year |
Website Hosting | The cost to host the website | $1200 / year |
Software Updates | The cost to update the website’s software | $1200 / year |
Design Updates | The cost to update the website’s design | $650 / year |
Tech support | The cost to fix any potential errors on the website | $2,200 / year |
Security | The cost of any security plugins for the website | $1000 / year |
Total Cost: $20,000 + $6,270 / year |
Funding Sources
The initial $26,270 cost of developing the website and paying for all necessary services will need to be acquired through grants or donations. The donations can be secured by either starting a campaign or crowdfunding on larger sites like Facebook or Twitter. The Process and Technolgy Improvement Grant is an example of a grant that could fund the development and maintenance of the website.
Once the website has been developed, advertisements can be run on the website in order for the website to become self-sustaining. There is also the option of reaching out to companies to sponsor the website in order to have the company’s name promoted along with the brand of healthy food awareness.
Some kind of citing for the source of the financial information would help here.
Thank you for your comment, I have implemented the changes.
Have you thought about the non-technical costs of running a website? I think that there could be additional cost for graphic designers, artists, video editors, etc. Most websites would look very bad if only a programmer worked on it.
Yes that’s where the Design Updates would come in
