May is Bike Month and the weather is ideal for bicycle commuting, exploring the outdoors by bike or connecting with friends on social rides. Bike Month at OSU means it’s time for the fun of the Spring Bike Challenge. The Challenge is free to join for students and employees and welcomes riders with a wide range of abilities. Each rider can log one ride per day toward the team total, so every rider can contribute regardless of how far or how fast they go. The winning strategy is to gather a team of up to ten people who can ride on campus daily.  Learn more and get started with Spring Bike Challenge.

This year’s Spring Bike Challenge features Cedar the Wellness Dog. Cedar supports well-being in his work with OSU Public Safety, and models helmet use on Bike Challenge flyers and swag this month. Fun fact: Cedar really has been spotted in a helmet!

Students leaving OSU Corvallis can donate their bikes to help future students. Donated bikes provide affordable, ready-to-ride transportation for others.

Drop-off Locations:

  •     Memorial Union: Thursday, May 29, 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
  •     Arnold Dining: Friday, May 30, 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
  •     Cascade Hall at DPS: June 9-13
    • Use the phone on the second floor for assistance
    • Show your OSU ID to a Public Safety officer

Here’s how it works: leave your old bike for Public Safety to pick up at a Bike Drop location. ALI Bike Shop Mechanics will refurbish it for the Fall Bike Sale if they can or may choose to send some bikes directly to a Surplus public sale. Income from these sales will be used to purchase replacement parts and cover other costs associated with the Bike Sale.

Donated bikes make a difference for the future. Students will purchase bikes at the Fall Bike Sale and use them to get where they need to go. Consider donating your old bike at a Spring Bike Drop!
