Blog #10 โ€“ Japan and The U.S.

I am Japanese as I said in the first blog, and English is my second language. I have been learning computer science for 3 years in the U.S, but it is still hard to study in English. Therefore, I use both Japanese and English for researching information. This sounds like I have a certain advantage because I can get information from both languages, and I believed that. However, it might be not advantage to me. The problem I am facing right now is that I am not specialist in both language. When I discuss with my classmates or some of my friends, they do really good summarize of class material in discussion. Am I not understanding lectures? No, I do not because I have 4.0 GPA. The issue is that I am using both language. When I use both language, I can get knowledge of the material. However, learning in both language makes hard to output information. Here, I can do test, but I can not discuss.

I realized this issue when I went back to Japan in last Summer. I found a job to teach programming to Japanese students, and most of my coworkers are majoring computer science. We discussed many things like how lectures are in Japan and the U.S. and what we are learning. Then I realized that I am not using term of computer science when I discuss. Now I came back to the U.S, and I decided to try using English to study for classes even if that takes more time.
