St. Jude Walk/Run 2022

PDC’s Beta Iota Chapter with Gamma Beta Chapter volunteering together at the St. Jude Walk/Run event at Tualatin Community Park.

Ending childhood cancer together, one step at a time.

September was declared as National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month by President Obama in 2012. This effort was to bring awareness to pediatric cancer which is the leading cause of death by disease for children under the age of 14. One of the most notable causes PDC is involved with is the committed involvement with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. In the month of September, St. Jude is known to hold an annual 5K nationwide walk/run event to help raise funds and bring awareness for this worthy cause.

Beta Iota chapter was just one of many others who were committed in supporting St. Jude’s mission by participating in the Portland walk/run that was held at Tualatin Community Park in Tualatin, OR on Sept. 24th.

From L-R: Brother Mathew Lee, WCC Alena Arounpradith, and Brother Suzie Cha represented Beta Iota chapter at the St. Jude Walk/Run event held in Tualatin, OR.

Brothers Mathew Lee, Suzie Cha, and WCC Alena Arounpradith, spent a sunny Saturday morning representing Beta Iota chapter at the St. Jude walk/run and even spent time to catch up with our neighboring chapter Gamma Beta from Pacific University. When asked what the experience was like and to provide an insight into what it means to support St. Jude and their mission, Brother Suzie highlights the connections and the generosity of volunteers that brings out the authenticity of the event.

“This was my first time attending the St. Jude Walk/Run, and it was a blast! We got to watch many children and their families get on stage, tell us their experience and all of the gracious help they received while under the care of St. Jude hospital. It was truly heartwarming to be able to be part of this cause! I also enjoyed getting to know our brothers from Gamma Beta and cheering with them as runners came through the finish line! We don’t get to gather very often, but this one is definitely one of my favorite ways to bond.”

We thank the dedication and time our Brothers had to represent our chapter as well as the Phi Delta Chi organization to help continue our philanthropy with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. As a chapter, we hope to continue our commitment towards helping in worthy causes and staying involved in initiatives that promote the values of Leadership and Service in PDC. One step at a time.
