Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) Community of Practice in Winter ’26

Would you like to learn more about the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) and how to apply it to your own teaching? Then CTL’s winter term SoTL Community of Practice may be perfect for you!

SoTL involves a systematic inquiry into teaching and learning to improve student learning. It starts with a reflective process of identifying a question or problem you have related to your teaching and/or student learning. Then, you gather evidence to answer that question, analyze the evidence, and share your findings.

CTL is hosting a SoTL Community of Practice (CoP) in winter term to support faculty members who are interested in learning more about using the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning to improve their teaching as well as student learning. Through participation in the first three sessions, faculty will learn more about what SoTL is and why it is important to the craft of teaching, different types of SoTL studies, and the ways faculty here at OSU are currently using SoTL to enhance their teaching practices. In the final session, we will engage in a brainstorming workshop where participants will consider some of the things they would like to learn more about related to their own teaching as well as ways to create a SoTL project around one of those ideas. CTL hopes to launch a SoTL Scholars program for the 2026-2027 academic year, which would provide support for faculty who are actively engaging in a SoTL project. Participation in this community of practice provides a valuable introduction to SoTL work and will help faculty prepare effective applications for that potential program.

The CoP will meet on Zoom on Fridays from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. in Weeks 4, 5, 6, and 7 (Jan. 30, Feb. 6, Feb. 13 and Feb. 20). The deadline to apply for the SoTL Community of Practice is Monday, December 1. The application can be found at https://beav.es/ZXq. Preference will be given to faculty who have research as part of their FTE and those who can attend all 4 sessions.
