The OSU Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) Fellows Program plays a pivotal role in fostering innovative teaching practices, supporting faculty development, and enhancing student success. In Fall 2024, five CTL Fellows were selected, representing the College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences; the College of Engineering; the College of Health; and OSU-Cascades. Below, get to know the CTL Fellows and explore their goals. Each college’s action plan aligns with the CTL Fellows’ Position Description and addresses faculty teaching needs within their academic unit or college.

Meet the College of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences CTL Fellow
Demian Hommel returns as the 2024-25 CTL Fellow for the College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences (CEOAS), marking both his and the college’s fourth year of active participation in the program. He brings a wealth of experience to his role, with a strong track record in supporting faculty development and innovative pedagogy. In his CTL Fellow role, he has the following overarching goals and priorities identified in collaboration with CEOAS administration.
- Goal 1: Personalized Pedagogical Support: Provide individualized, just-in-time support tailored to faculty needs in course design, assessment, inclusive teaching strategies, and addressing emerging challenges.
- Goal 2: Commitment to Student Success: Prioritize initiatives to improve student retention and enrollment by engaging with program chairs to identify student success challenges and opportunities, collaborating with faculty on high DFW courses to develop targeted interventions and improve outcomes, and strengthening CEOAS-CTL partnerships to better integrate support resources and align with student success strategies.
- Goal 3: Responsive and Community-Building-Focused Professional Development: Facilitate timely, relevant professional development initiatives that fosters community engagement, including workshops on generative AI, alternative assessments, and strategies for inclusive classroom environments to enhance teaching and learning.

Meet the College of Engineering CTL Fellow
Devlin Montfort continues as the 2024-25 CTL Fellow for the College of Engineering (COE), entering his second consecutive year in the role and contributing to COE’s fifth year of program involvement. Building on his impactful first year, Devlin continues to champion evidence-based instructional practices within the COE. Former CTL Fellows in COE include Shane Brown and Adam Lambert. In his CTL Fellow role, Devlin has identified the following 2024-25 goals with COE administration:
- Goal 1: Peer-Educator Development Community: Develop and implement research-based support for paid peer educators in the College, starting with the ENGR+ program. Focus on developing skills and habits that are immediately relevant to them, enhancing their effectiveness as peer educators while also benefiting their studies and future engineering careers.
- Goal 2: Teaching & Learning Lunch/Breakfast Events: Continue to develop, implement, and assess a series of one-hour lunch/breakfast events that engage faculty in evidence-based instructional practices (EBIPs) such as active learning, interactive engagement, and project-based learning.

Meet the College of Health CTL Fellow
Cathleen Crowell is in her 2nd consecutive year of service. Building on foundations from her first year, Cathleen is deepening curriculum development and teaching and learning initiatives with Kinesiology faculty. Former CTL Fellows from the College of Health (COH) include Michelle Bump and Tasha Randall. This is the college’s second year participating in the program. In her CTL Fellow role, Cathy has the following 2024-25 goals:
- Goal 1: Enhance faculty understanding and effective use of generative AI in classroom and lab settings.
- Goal 2: Support instructors and GTAs through 1:1 consultations and small content workgroups to integrate active learning, design appropriate assessments, and improve student learning outcomes.

Meet the OSU-Cascades CTL Fellows
David Engel, Molly Moran, and Silas Towne support faculty excellence through their roles at the Cascades Faculty Success Center (FSC). The FSC is the first point of contact for all OSU-Cascades faculty for academic, pedagogical and professional questions. The goal of the FSC is to maximize the impact each faculty member has by connecting them to the resources available to the entire OSU community and providing the support they need. Cascades is in its 5th year participating in the CTL Fellows program. We welcome Molly and Silas to this role and give a thank you to David and former CTL Fellow Scott Geddes for four years of service each. As CTL Fellows, David, Molly and Silas have the following 2024-25 goals in alignment with their FSC work.
- Goal 1: Provide access to Cascades Faculty Support Center resources through the Canvas site, website, and face to face support.
- Goal 2: Facilitate educational and professional connections between program partners in CTL, UIT- Academic Technologies and Ecampus to meet pedagogical needs of Cascades faculty.
- Goal 3: Participate with the CTL Fellows program Assistant Director, program partners, and/or other CTL Fellows in repackaging resources and/or creating resources to fill gaps.
