Workshop: Facilitating Constructive Conversations in Teaching and Learning
Thursday, October 24, 2 to 3:20 p.m. | Register – LINC 343
- With an upcoming election and ongoing conflict in our world, how can we facilitate constructive conversations in online and face-to-face courses? In this workshop, participants will learn about the importance of civil discussion in higher education, the challenges of navigating challenging issues when teaching, and strategies for facilitating constructive conversations. The workshop ends with practice course-based teaching and learning scenarios for application.

- “We teach who we are.” Parker J. Palmer’s 1997 book is one of the many resources available in the CTL library. His book presents the interconnectivity between the student, subject, and teacher in the learning process. This QT Talk will highlight the important role each play in education and how an interdependent community between all three can promote learning.

- Students spend most of their college careers in physical or virtual classroom spaces; therefore, faculty are their primary links to OSU. The interactions faculty have with students, whether in class or outside of it, provide opportunities for connection and care. Participants will explore the evidence on student-faculty interactions and identify ways to increase the quality and/or quantity of those interactions.
