Highlights
Updated PHHS Advising Protocol
Per the university recommendations and protocol, PHHS advising, starting on March 16 and for the foreseeable future, no longer offers in-person appointments and is utilizing the Zoom platform for video/audio conference appointments. If you have already scheduled an appointment with your advisor KEEP YOUR APPOINTMENT. Your advisor will send you a ZOOM meeting invitation for your appointment day/time. For all appointments made after March 16, you must choose ZOOM as your appointment type. When you schedule your appointment online (non-admitted students can call 541-737-8900 to schedule an appointment), you will be provided with information on what you need to meet with your advisor through Zoom. Advisors still have drop-in advising during the term. Drop-ins will occur via Zoom. Learn more about drop-in advising at https://health.oregonstate.edu/advising/appointment/drop-in. An advising appointment will still be required to obtain your PIN to register (excluding Education double degree students in their student teaching year). The Office of Students Success (Women’s Building 105) office will be staffed to support those in need of assistance. We aim to maintain our normal business hours of 8 a.m.-5 p.m., 6 p.m. Tues, Wed and Thurs (excluding spring break), but those may vary based on future developments. Please check the PHHS Advising website for updates. Please do not come to the office in person if you have any cold, flu or other symptoms of illness. Instead, email your advisor or call the front desk at 541-737-8900.
Apply for Homecoming Court
Join a diverse group of student leaders brought together by shared Beaver spirit! When you represent Oregon State as a member of the Homecoming Court you will earn a $500 scholarship, develop leadership skills and your network, and share your voice at important university events including Homecoming Week. If you believe you go the Beaver spirit, apply by April 20, 2020.
IMPACT for Life
IMPACT for Life is in need of volunteers for Spring Term! Volunteers should be interested in healthcare, kinesiology, and can have any major. IMPACT for life works with people with disabilities in exercise facilities around Corvallis. Nor experience is needed and training is provided. Mandatory orientation will be held on Friday, April 3, in Women’s Building 210 from 4-5:30 pm. Apply today, or contact Kayla Lindland for more information!
H 388: Global Environmental Health
This Spring Term consider taking H 388: Global Environmental Health! Taught by Dr. Sarah Rothenberg, students will receive an overview of global environmental issues, including climate change, air pollution, water, e-waste, metals, and their impacts on human health. The class will meet on Tuesday and Thursday from 2-3:20 pm. Register today!
Oregon Health Authority: AmeriCorps
The Oregon Health Authority is recruiting AmeriCorps volunteers to start in April 2020. Volunteers are given a living allowance, post-service awards, and a wealth of public health training and networking. Individuals interested in public health, fighting poverty, and looking for career development should consider applying. Learn more and apply by March 20, 2020.
Be a Research Participant
Researchers from the College of Public Health and Human Sciences at Oregon State University are planning to do a study measuring how different seat suspensions attenuate exposure to whole body vibration and affect biomechanical exposures and perceived discomfort. The results of this study will help us evaluate the current designs and potentially lead to the identification of additional design modifications to further promote occupational health of drivers. Participants will be paid $25 per hour. They must have one year of driving experience, be 21-49, and be pain free in neck, shoulder, and back regions. To sign up or learn more, contact Jay Kim.
HHS 003: Non-Credit Research Course
The newly created Faculty-Mentored Research Opportunity HHS 003 is a non-credit undergraduate research course designed for students to engage in research activities appropriate to their disciplines in Public Health and Human Sciences. In consultation with a faculty mentor, students will participate in a faculty research project and/or design their own research project. Students will gain research experience and acquire skills, techniques, and knowledge relevant to their field of study. Students who spend a minimum of 30 hours in activities related to the planning and execution of a research project will receive recognition through a transcript-visible notation. The Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis is now accepting applications for their annual Clinical Ethics Summer Internship. This opportunity is designated for senior undergraduates. Networking Event
Interested in senior healthcare? Join Marquis Companies and Consonus Healthcare at OSU for an evening of socializing! Their team will be sharing information about their organization along with their different career and internship paths for a future in senior healthcare. The event will be taking place on Tuesday, April 14 from 5:30 to 8:00 pm at the CH2M Hill Alumni Center Cascade Ballroom. RSVP by Friday, April 10. There will be light appetizers and beverages!
Volunteer with Camp Promise
Camp Promise-Rockies is a camp for youth and young adults with muscular dystrophy and neuromuscular diseases. They are looking for volunteers to join them for one week, August 2-7, at their camp in Empire, CO this summer! The camp believes all kids should get to experience the magic of camp, regardless of their medical needs or physical abilities and highly value our volunteers who help make this happen. Academy for Lifelong Learning Scholarship
Full-time students who have a GPA of 3.2 or higher and who qualify for financial assistance as defined by the OSU Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships should apply for the Academy for Lifelong Learning Scholarship. This is a $2,000 scholarship for the 2020-2021 academic year. Applications are due by April 24, 2020.
