Writing Exercise #3

Behaviors that an individual could engage in that could cause changes to their gut microbial community include taking prebiotics, probiotics, fecal transplants, antibiotics, and using antimicrobials. Prebiotics are beneficial in terms of the growth of microbes in the system, fecal transplants are also beneficial to relocate communities of microbes from one person to the other. Antibiotics are detrimental to the gut community because, even though it wipes out the bad organisms, it also wipes out the good microbes. Antimicrobials can control pathogens in the microbial community.
