Human non-infectious diseases that are influenced by microorganisms include a wide spectrum. The gut-brain connection is strong and includes a lot of different interconnected factors. Some that I can think of include irritable bowel syndrome, Crohn’s disease, mental health illnesses such as anxiety or depression. In comparison to my first exercise that I completed, this response had a wider range of diseases mentioned. My first list was small and included things that were more related and within the same categories compared to this list. This course has taught me a lot in terms of all the different ways that the microbiota can influence human health. There are so many things that the microorganisms influence, it is interesting to see how manipulating that can benefit human interactions.
