My personal brand that I would want my employers to know is that I have a strong work ethic and I am adaptable. I have a strong work ethic in a way that I would get all my task completed on time. I am able to do this since I can effectively manage my time. Doing so can help me focus on the important task so I can do it efficiently. I am also adaptable since I also enjoy learning new things. I am comfortable to learn new skills that may be different from my field and I might be able to use the new skill to master several types of jobs.
I would present myself by ensuring that my employees know my strengths. I would try to advertise myself by being able to show my strengths by proving with past achievements and how my strengths can be beneficial to the company. I should make the ad interesting enough so the employers will want to take their time to look at the ad. I would also make it just enough so they can get all the information needed clearly without taking a long time to understand the ad about myself. I would select the company that can benefit from my skills. This would make it easier for the company and myself to know how I can be useful for the company. I would also not be specific of what type of job I actually pursue, I would rather show my interest to let the employers know that I am adaptable for any position.

Week 3 – Job Descriptions
The last job I had was as a project management officer. At that time the job description did not really matter, as I prefer to just get an experience in the company I intern at. However, I just considered if the job description can be related to major at all. When I had the internship, my experience did not entirely match the job description for the first month. During my first month, I mainly was there to help my supervisor in taking notes or helping other employees when possible. However, during the second and third month is when I worked as the project management officer. I was assigned to a project that was already started and I finished the intern before the project done. When I left, the project was already at its final stages before being advertised to the public.
The job description was similar in a way where I was in charge of creating a timeline for the project and giving the upper level manager an update of the progress. I would say that the job description was a little bit different since I did not have a specific task during my first month of the intern. One of the tasks listed in the job description was to prepare reports which summarizes the progress made or bottlenecks that occur. This is one of the weekly tasks I did. Another similar one was analyzing and monitor the partnership which I also did since the project also had a collaboration with a third party.
If I saw a news article regarding my favorite company getting a lawsuit due to discrimination, it will change on how I view the company. I would first try to do my own research on how valid and how severe the discrimination is. It might happen due to unintentional discrimination where there is a chance, I might still support the company in the way of using their products. However, if the discrimination is severe and purely intentional then I will decide to not support the company anymore unless they are willing to prove and show how they can overturn the situation. In the case where the company will try to overturn the situation, it will take a long time for them to redeem themselves to the public. If I still decide to support the company, it will also affect me by having other people think that I support the discrimination. It would be unethical for me to continue supporting a company that discriminates.
Unintentional or not, I would think twice before applying for the company. I would most likely not apply for a position in a company that discriminates. I think that nowadays, a single issue such as this will destroy the company’s brand and reputation. It will be difficult for the company to recover from such issue since it has become more important nowadays and can face severe punishments. Not only does this affect the company’s image but also to its supporters if they don’t change their views about the company.
The last time I experienced being an applicant was for my internship last summer. I applied for a company that was well known back in my country. It was a unicorn company and therefore I know that applying for the intern will be hard. However, I was lucky enough to know someone working there and I got help with the application process. My qualifications were also enough to apply for an internship position in the company. When I applied, I did not get an answer for a couple of months which gave me the impression of how competitive the hiring process is. The long wait also made think that I did not get the internship since it took longer than expected and since I heard from other people how competitive it is getting hired by the company. However, I desired to intern there since the company was one of Indonesia’s leading company. When I finally got the interview, I found out how flexible their hours were. I became more interested in joining since I also value work hours. I also was able to get my job description and the interviewer explained in short of the responsibility that I would be handling. I also saw that the position will give me more experience and be related to my major. Their mission statement also gave a good impression to me and I got a clear idea on how the company culture is like during the interview. Overall I was sure that I really wanted to get the internship.
Organizations might sometimes decide to allocate their resources for marketing or product design rather than employee recruitment. Companies think that by investing in other department will create more benefit for them since results can be proven through innovations and revenues. Companies might also create goals that might not include employees and therefore will be overlooked. However, they are the reason that the products can be made. In terms of marketing, companies might want to focus their attention on building a name for the brand and company. They view it as a key for competitive advantage that will attract their customers. Through marketing, it also helps determine the demand from the customers. While companies also think that product design as more important than employee recruitment since without a product, there won’t be sales. The only advantage of not prioritizing recruitment and selection is having more resources to be used in other departments. However, by prioritizing it will gain more advantage for the company. Making a key mistake will result to high cost in the hiring process since it will be repeated if a wrong employee gets hired. Hiring a bad employee will also lead to opportunity cost where the company projects will not be completed and time consuming for the company. Therefore, hiring a bad employee results in very high cost. Good employees are rare and hard to find. They are also recognized to create competitive advantage with competitors. Having a successful workforce is difficult to imitate while having a brand name is easier to get through marketing.
