THIS WEEK! HCSA Bob Ross Night
Calling all artists! Join the HCSA on Tuesday, May 14th from 5 – 7 p.m. in LInC 343 and 345 for an evening of Bob Ross painting! Meet new friends and paint along to a spring themed Bob Ross episode. Refreshments and supplies will be provided – though, if you have your own painting supplies, feel free to bring them!

DEADLINE TODAY! Nominate an HC faculty for the Honors College Eminent Mentor award
The Honors College invites all Honors College students and recent alumni to nominate a faculty member for the annual Margaret and Thomas Meehan Eminent Mentor award. The Honors College Eminent Mentor award recognizes a faculty member for their outstanding support of honors undergraduate research throughout their careers and entails a $2,000 prize. Check out previous recipients here. Nominations must include brief comments explaining the nomination and can be made here. Please submit nominations by TODAY, Monday, May 13th. THIS WEEK! Thesis Fair
Come see what research HC students have conducted on Friday, May 17th. From 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m at LInC 368: Join HC students presenting their research in lightning talk format. Each student will talk 3-5 minutes and there will be time for questions after presentations. Come see the variety of research our HC students are participating in person on Corvallis campus or virtually. From 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at 3rd Floor LInC Hallways: Join a select group of HC students as they present their research poster. Learn about the exciting topics HC student have been researching!
NEW! Honors College Graduation Celebration
HC Graduates from Summer ’23-Summer ’24 are invited to join the Honors College deans and staff on Friday, June 14 from 4-6 p.m. in the LInC Lawn as we celebrate the accomplishments of honors students at the 2024 Honors College Graduation Celebration! There will be gifts for graduates, light refreshments and opportunities for photos at this event. Students and families are welcome to arrive any time from 4-5:30 p.m.
NEW! Summer Read 2024: Solito by Javier Zamora
This summer, incoming students will read Javier Zamora’s gripping memoir, Solito. This is the story of Zamora’s migration at age nine from El Salvador to the U.S. as an unaccompanied minor. We invite everyone to read this year’s selection, and to that end we have provided copies of the book that you can check out at Valley Library Reserves (four copies in English and one in Spanish). See availability and location. On Wednesday October 16, Zamora will come to campus to meet with honors students and participate in a moderated conversation at PRAx, the new performing arts center. HC Spring Gala
All Honors College students are invited to HCSA’s Spring Gala for a night of music, dancing, activities and celebration on Thursday, May 23rd from 6-9 p.m. in the MU ballroom. Semi-formal attire is encouraged. While we acknowledge that many students have friends outside of the Honors College, we ask that students refrain from bringing guests unless they are also members of the Honors College. RSVP here. ONGOING! Drop-in Thesis Support
Starting in week 4, we’re excited to offer drop-in thesis hours in LInC 450. Hosted by Dewi Roberts, the Advising Coordinator for the HC, they’ll run Monday through Friday between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. Whether you’re grappling with formatting challenges for your pre-text pages, have questions about the external communication requirement, would like to schedule your thesis, or encounter any other thesis-related issues, this is your opportunity to seek assistance.
ONGOING! Honors Graduation Regalia Donations
The Honors College encourages recent graduates to donate their HC Graduation Regalia to our office so that they can be borrowed for future students in an effort to be more sustainable and save students the investment. If recent graduates still have their Honors College stole/tam and want to donate them for future HC grads, they can drop them off at the office Monday-Friday 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., or they can mail them to the Honors College Office. DUE THIS WEEK! Marine Studies Initiative Coastal Housing Award Opportunities
Because of generous donor support, Coastal Housing Awards are now available for students who are seeking field housing at the coast and in need of financial assistance. These awards are for students studying at the Hatfield Marine Science Center in Summer 2024. MSI Student Coastal Housing Awards will be up to $400 per award. Multiple awards are available. HC Differential Tuition Emergency Grant
The Honors College encourages students experiencing unusual financial challenges to apply for a one-term Honors College Differential Tuition and Emergency Grant of $500. This is not a scholarship and is designed to provide short-term, immediate support. Contact bailey.garvin@oregonstate.edu or an Honors College advisor with questions.
HC Experiential Award Application
Honors students who have submitted a thesis proposal are eligible to apply for an Honors Experiential Scholarship of up to $750 in support of participation at a professional conference or engagement in thesis research. Contact Kevin Stoller at kevin.stoller@oregonstate.edu with questions.

THIS WEEK! Apply to the Justice Challenge
Interested in addressing climate change? Check out the Justice Challenge! Join honors students from universities across the United States in exploring the complex issues around food justice in the 2024-2025 academic year. Collaborating with experts from a variety of fields, you will engage with others to address real social needs and develop your capacity for civic engagement, innovation, and leadership. The program is open to a limited number of participants. Each student will enroll in an a nine-week online colloquium, and a 1-day concluding online conference. In addition, each student will participate in at least one of three signature experiences: a Design Challenge (semester-long course, in-person); a Hackathon (2-day, in person or online); or a Field Course (1 week, in-person). Students may nominate themselves or be nominated by a representative of their Honors college or program. Students who self-nominate should ask a current or former professor to complete this reference form by Wednesday, May 15. THIS WEEK! Beaver Connect Peer Mentor Positions
Beaver Connect is looking for Peer Mentors for 2024-2025 mentoring teams at the Corvallis campus! This program matches you with a faculty member to co-mentor a group of 3-4 new-to-OSU students. Together, you’ll lead crucial discussions on navigating college, achieving success, and getting more out of the OSU experience. This is a paid position that will allow you to make connections with faculty and peers and develop resume-building leadership skills! We are particularly interested in undergraduate students who identify as students of color, first-generation students, students with high-financial need, and transfer students. The Design for Social Impact (DSI) undergraduate certificate program is now accepting Ambassador applications to fill two part-time positions. Ambassadors are current OSU students who host information sessions on campus, represent DSI at on-campus and off-campus recruiting and Alumni events, and connect with prospective DSI students and families. OSU Energy Efficiency Center is Hiring
Would you be interested in an on-campus job working with industry clients to reduce energy use and improve productivity, while applying what you are learning in your classes? The OSU Energy Efficiency Center (EEC) is looking for motivated student energy analysts to work part-time during the school year (10-20 hrs/week) and during the summer (~40 hrs/week). The OSU EEC offers comprehensive, student-led, on-site energy and productivity assessments to small and medium-sized manufacturers through a US Department of Energy funded program. Student teams advised by engineering faculty visit manufacturers and seek ways to increase their productivity and reduce energy use and waste. Learn more about the OSU Energy Efficiency Center here. The College of Education and the OSU Alumni Association are hosting a virtual panel (via Zoom) of OSU alumni and other respected, regional educators as we explore the impactful journeys of Teachers of Color in the field of Education on Wednesday, May 15th at 4:30 p.m. It will be hosted both virtually here and in-person at the Centro Cultural César Chávez. This event is open to (and encouraged!) for students and faculty across all departments, not limited to education students. We hope to see you there!

The Basic Needs Center (BNC) has a Textbook Lending Library open to all on-campus students that includes books, calculators, chemistry model sets, and more. HC Resources
The Honors College main office in LInC 450 is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. HC staff is on hand during business hours to assist with questions, help with scheduling appointments or just chat and share some free candy. “Forgot Your Lunch?” Station Available in SLUG
The Honors College is back with a “Forgot Your Lunch?” station for you to have a snack or light lunch if you ever need it. Whether you need food because you forgot your lunch, are low on money or simply need a snack, please help yourself to this free resource. The resource is self-serve and can be accessed any time that the SLUG is open in the kitchen area. The student computer lab and lounge (the SLUG) on the third floor of LInC 340 will be open:
- Monday-Thursday – 7:30 a.m.-9:00 p.m.
- Friday – 7:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
- Saturday – noon- 6:00 p.m.
- Sunday – 10:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m.
These resources are available throughout the term.
