Come meet other students, volunteer, practice leadership, plan events or get involved with the Honors College this fall! The Honors College Student Association holds general meetings every Monday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in LInC 345. The HCSA is looking for new students to join the leadership team and have specific positions open for first-year students! Come learn more about HCSA! All HC students are welcome to join.

THIS WEEK! Take a trip abroad with the HC – France and London Programs Info Sessions
France program info session: Friday, Jan. 19 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. @ LInC 350. Learn about the Honors College faculty-led program to Lyon, France (with exciting day trips, including to Geneva, Switzerland!). The program takes place June 18 to July 3, 2024.
London Program info session: Monday, Jan. 29, 4-5:00 p.m. @ LINC 360. Come learn about thisfaculty led trip, where students can earn grants 4 credits of HC Bacc Core and 2 Colloquia credits while exploring London and beyond. Tuesday, Jan. 16 4-5 p.m. @ 3rd Floor LInC Forum: Meet OSU’s academic leaders, learn about opportunities in your college, and connect with other honors students. Listen and chat while enjoying cookies, doughnuts, pastries (including GF and vegan options), as well as coffee and other hot beverages.
THIS WEEK! How the Court System Affects You More than You Think – A Dean and Friends Conversation with Judge Mary Deits Rousseau
All Honors College students are invited to a special Dean and Friends lunch conversation with Judge Mary Deits Rousseau on “How the Court System Affects You More than You Think” on Friday, January 19th from noon-12:50 p.m. in Memorial Union 213. Judge Rousseau was named an Honors College Alumni Fellow by the Oregon State University Alumni Association in 2023 and is a member of the Honors College Board of Regents, the college’s leadership advisory group. After graduating from the honors program at Oregon State in 1971, she became the second woman to serve on the Oregon Court of Appeals and one of the first in the country to be a Chief Judge of a state Court of Appeals. At this discussion, she’ll share reflections on how the courts affect us all in our everyday lives and how the role of the courts is changing. Scholarship & Financial Aid Opportunities
HC Differential Tuition Emergency Grant
The Honors College encourages students experiencing unusual financial challenges to apply for a one-term Honors College Differential Tuition and Emergency Grant of $500. This is not a scholarship and is designed to provide short-term, immediate support. Contact bailey.garvin@oregonstate.edu or an Honors College advisor with questions.
HC Experiential Award Application
Honors students who have submitted a thesis proposal are eligible to apply for an Honors Experiential Scholarship of up to $750 in support of participation at a professional conference or engagement in thesis research. Contact Kevin Stoller at kevin.stoller@oregonstate.edu with questions.

NEW! Healthcare Internship Opportunity – MCORRP Summer Internship Applications Open
Through generous support from Dr. Kim Eagle ’76, the HC is privileged to offer students the opportunity to apply for an internship with the Michigan Clinical Outcomes Research and Reporting Program (MCORRP). This year there will be 2 students selected. This summer internship program is a 10 week opportunity, from early June to August, at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor. Experience includes work involved with MCORRP databases, developing a research project, and experiencing medicine first hand, and the chance to accompany physicians and to shadow medical specialists. Preference will be given to students in their third year of study within the HC at the time of application. Interested in pursuing a career in healthcare? NEW! Undergraduate Internship Opportunity with NOAA
The Cooperative Institute for Marine Resources Studies (CIMERS) in cooperation with the Inclusive NOAA Fisheries Internship Program (IN FISH) is seeking applications for an IN FISH participant at their location in Newport, OR. The 10-week internship is paid and includes a 2-week course available for credit.
As an intern, you will gain first-hand experience in big data by analyzing oceanographic data and/or model output using Python. Beyond the research experience, you will have an opportunity to ask questions about graduate programs and interact with the six state and federal agencies located at the Hatfield Marine Science Center.
This program is looking for a person with quantitative skills, curiosity, enthusiasm, independence, and perseverance. Apply on the IN FISH website by Saturday, Feb. 10. Offers will be made in March. For questions please contact rosemary.kosaka@noaa.gov.
NEW THIS WEEK! KTM Research – Presentation on Career Pathways and Internship Position
Join the HC for a discussion about career pathways with OSU alumni David Mandrell and Myra Koesdjojo at KTM Research on Thursday, Jan. 18 from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. at LInC 444. David Mandrell graduated in 2010, joining KTM Research after earning his Master’s degree in industrial engineering. He is looking forward to speak about the valuable experiences he has gained from his position and sharing with OSU students what he wishes he had known earlier in his career. Additionally, David will discuss the job opportunities at KTM, including summer internship opportunities. Myra Koesdjojo earned her PhD from OSU in 2009, with her research focused on microfluidic applications. She currently leads KTM Research’s business strategy, implementing initiatives to expand their reach within the industry. UPCOMING! Global Opportunity: Take 3 credits in Aruba!
The School of Public Policy and the College of Science is offering a unique high impact three credit educational experience lasting from March 23 – April 22, 2024. Students will spend a week in Aruba (March 23 – 31) engaged in a faculty led introduction to the cultural, historical and sustainable development of island ecosystems and natural resources. The focus of the course is understanding Sustainability in Action (SiA) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on a small island state ecosystem. The deadline to apply is January 20, 2024. Attend the College of Agricultural Sciences’ information meetings on Thursday, Jan. 18 at 3 p.m. or 4 p.m. in STAG 240 to learn about OSU GO’s Puerto Rico program lasting from March 22 – 30, 2024. Partner with Puerto Rican Faculty, researchers, and residents through projects connected to natural resource management and food systems. UPCOMING! Apply for the Alternative Spring Break program
Alternative Break offers week-long service & leadership programs traveling to several locations on the west coast during OSU’s spring break (March 23rd-29th, 2024).
Join groups of 10-12 students in multi-day, overnight programs in one of three Pacific Northwest communities to learn its historical, cultural, and political background. Engage in a variety of direct service projects, educational sessions, and reflective dialogue with leaders in their respective communities. This program is an opportunity to explore the complexity of social issues, reflect on ones own assumptions, and develop the ability to lead for social change, all while connecting with fellow OSU students! NEW AND UPCOMING! Faculty Research Showcase – CEOAS, CAS, COF
Join the HC and faculty from the College of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences, College of Agricultural Sciences and College of Forestry to learn about research opportunities on Wednesday, Jan. 24th, 4:00pm – 5:30 p.m. at LInC 100 or Online*. This event will be recorded and is open to all CEOAS, College of Forestry and College of Agricultural Sciences undergraduates. The Faculty Research Showcases are an excellent way to connect with faculty members, learn more about their research and potentially get involved in projects that could be the basis of an HC thesis. Even if you don’t yet feel ready to begin research or are not sure about your interests, attending these events helps you to explore opportunities and make connections. RSVP here. NEW THIS WEEK! KBVR-TV New Volunteer Orientation
Interested in participating in student media? Join KBVR-TV, OSU’s student led TV station this Thursday, Jan. 18th from 5-7 p.m. on the 4th floor of the SEC for an introduction on how to be part of the action! Get hands on practice with camera operating, directing, audio engineering, writing, acting, and video editing. No prior experience is needed to join KBVR-TV.
Volunteer at Stone Soup to serve meals to our community
Stone Soup provides >100 daily free, hot, nutritious meals 365 days a year, no questions asked, in a manner that honors the dignity of each person we serve in our diverse community. We rely on volunteers to cook and serve every meal and welcome volunteers for various tasks including food prep, cooking, serving, and cleanup. Contribute to Research About Low-Income First-Generation Students!
Natalie Rooney, a doctoral student in OSU’s Adult & Higher Education program, is seeking students to participate in her dissertation research. To participate, students should be: Low-income (as defined as by self-identifying and/or by having received a Pell grant); First-generation; In your 2nd or 3rd year of college; Started your freshman year at OSU. Participation involves a short interview (Zoom or in-person) about your experiences as a student. Participants’ identity will be kept anonymous as part of the study, and can withdraw at any time with no penalty. If interested, fill out this short introductory survey. You will receive a $25 Visa gift card for participating. Borrow your Textbooks for Free!
The Basic Needs Center (BNC) has a Textbook Lending Library open to all on-campus students that includes books, calculators, chemistry model sets, and more. Visit their Textbook Lending Program website to see resources available at the BNC. Starting Monday, September 18, visit the BNC in-person at Champinefu Lodge to check out course materials.

The Honors College main office in LInC 450 is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. HC staff is on hand during business hours to assist with questions, help with scheduling appointments or just chat and share some free candy. Need a way to deepen your understanding of course material, discuss challenging concepts and study for upcoming exams and assignments with your fellow Beavs? Sign up for the fall term HC study groups! Study groups are a great way to receive extra academic support in any of your courses. “Forgot Your Lunch?” Station Available in SLUG
The Honors College is back with a “Forgot Your Lunch?” station for you to have a snack or light lunch if you ever need it. Whether you need food because you forgot your lunch, are low on money or simply need a snack, please help yourself to this free resource. The resource is self-serve and can be accessed any time that the SLUG is open in the kitchen area. The student computer lab and lounge (the SLUG) on the third floor of LInC 340 will be open:
- Monday-Thursday – 7:30 a.m.-9:00 p.m.
- Friday – 7:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
- Saturday – noon- 6:00 p.m.
- Sunday – 10:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m.
These resources are available throughout the term.
