Come meet other students, volunteer, practice leadership, plan events or get involved with the Honors College this fall! The Honors College Student Association holds general meetings every Monday from 7 to 8 p.m. in LInC 303. The HCSA is looking for new students to join the leadership team and have specific positions open for first-year students! Come learn more about HCSA! All HC students are welcome to join.

NEW! Take a trip abroad with the HC – France Program Info Session
Drop into LInC 350 on Friday, Jan. 19 anytime between 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to learn about the Honors College faculty-led program to Lyon, France (with exciting day trips, including to Geneva, Switzerland!). The program takes place June 18-July 3, 2024.

Tuesday, Jan. 16 4-5 p.m. @ 3rd Floor LInC Forum: Meet OSU’s academic leaders, learn about opportunities in your college, and connect with other honors students. Listen and chat while enjoying cookies, doughnuts, pastries (including GF and vegan options), as well as coffee and other hot beverages.
NEW! How the Court System Affects You More than You Think – A Dean and Friends Conversation with Judge Mary Deits Rousseau
All Honors College students are invited to a special Dean and Friends lunch conversation with Judge Mary Deits Rousseau on “How the Court System Affects You More than You Think” on Friday, January 19th from noon-12:50 p.m. in Memorial Union 213. Judge Rousseau was named an Honors College Alumni Fellow by the Oregon State University Alumni Association in 2023 and is a member of the Honors College Board of Regents, the college’s leadership advisory group. After graduating from the honors program at Oregon State in 1971, she became the second woman to serve on the Oregon Court of Appeals and one of the first in the country to be a Chief Judge of a state Court of Appeals. At this discussion, she’ll share reflections on how the courts affect us all in our everyday lives and how the role of the courts is changing. If you are a recent HC graduate or know someone who is, consider donating your Honors College stole or tam to be used by future HC students walking across the podium! The HC is accepting donations to be dropped off at the office in LInC 450,Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
NEW! Join Honors College Community Coffee
HC3 (Honors College Community Coffee) events this term will be Wednesday, Jan. 24, 9 – 10:30 a.m. and Tuesday, Feb. 27, 3:00 – 4:30 p.m. in LInC 340. Come join HC students, faculty, and staff for coffee and snacks!
HC London Trip 2024 Information Session
Keep calm and carry on, the HC is going to London in August 2024! If you’re interested in going abroad and getting 6 HC credits for it, stop by the London Study abroad information session on Monday, Jan. 29 in LINC 360, 4-5 pm. Thisfaculty led trip earn grants 4 credits of HC Bacc Core and 2 Colloquia credits while exploring London and beyond. To learn more come to the information session and visit the HC London page here.

Scholarship & Financial Aid Opportunities
HC Differential Tuition Emergency Grant
The Honors College encourages students experiencing unusual financial challenges to apply for a one-term Honors College Differential Tuition and Emergency Grant of $500. This is not a scholarship and is designed to provide short-term, immediate support. Contact bailey.garvin@oregonstate.edu or an Honors College advisor with questions.
HC Experiential Award Application
Honors students who have submitted a thesis proposal are eligible to apply for an Honors Experiential Scholarship of up to $750 in support of participation at a professional conference or engagement in thesis research. Contact Kevin Stoller at kevin.stoller@oregonstate.edu with questions.

Global Opportunity: Take 3 credits in Aruba!
The School of Public Policy and the College of Science is offering a unique high impact three credit educational experience lasting from March 23 – April 22, 2024. Students will spend a week in Aruba (March 23 – 31) engaged in a faculty led introduction to the cultural, historical and sustainable development of island ecosystems and natural resources. The focus of the course is understanding Sustainability in Action (SiA) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on a small island state ecosystem. The deadline to apply is January 20, 2024. NEW! Apply for the Alternative Spring Break program
Alternative Break offers week-long community-engaged service & leadership programs traveling to Washington, Southern Oregon, and California during OSU’s spring break (March 23rd-29th, 2024).
Join groups of 10-12 students in multi-day, overnight programs in one of three Pacific Northwest communities to learn its historical, cultural, and political background. Engage in a variety of direct service projects, educational sessions and presentations, and reflective dialogue with leaders and change-makers in their respective communities. This program is an opportunity to explore the complexity of social issues, reflect on ones own assumptions, and develop the ability to lead for social change, all while connecting with fellow OSU students! NEW! Contribute to Research About Low-Income First-Generation Students!
Natalie Rooney, a doctoral student in OSU’s Adult & Higher Education program, is seeking students to participate in her dissertation research. To participate, students should be: Low-income (as defined as by self-identifying and/or by having received a Pell grant); First-generation; In your 2nd or 3rd year of college; Started your freshman year at OSU. Participation involves a short interview (Zoom or in-person) about your experiences as a student. Participants’ identity will be kept anonymous as part of the study, and can withdraw at any time with no penalty. If interested, fill out this short introductory survey. You will receive a $25 Visa gift card for participating. Volunteer at Stone Soup to serve meals to our community
Stone Soup provides >100 daily free, hot, nutritious meals 365 days a year, no questions asked, in a manner that honors the dignity of each person we serve in our diverse community. We rely on volunteers to cook and serve every meal and welcome volunteers for various tasks including food prep, cooking, serving, and cleanup. Borrow your Textbooks for Free!
The Basic Needs Center (BNC) has a Textbook Lending Library open to all on-campus students that includes books, calculators, chemistry model sets, and more. Visit their Textbook Lending Program website to see resources available at the BNC. Starting Monday, September 18, visit the BNC in-person at Champinefu Lodge to check out course materials.
HC Resources
The Honors College main office in LInC 450 is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. HC staff is on hand during business hours to assist with questions, help with scheduling appointments or just chat and share some free candy. HC Study Groups
Need a way to deepen your understanding of course material, discuss challenging concepts and study for upcoming exams and assignments with your fellow Beavs? Sign up for the fall term HC study groups! Study groups are a great way to receive extra academic support in any of your courses. If you would like to participate in fall term HC study groups, please email bailey.garvin@oregonstate.edu.
“Forgot Your Lunch?” Station Available in SLUG
The Honors College is back with a “Forgot Your Lunch?” station for you to have a snack or light lunch if you ever need it. Whether you need food because you forgot your lunch, are low on money or simply need a snack, please help yourself to this free resource. The resource is self-serve and can be accessed any time that the SLUG is open in the kitchen area. The student computer lab and lounge (the SLUG) on the third floor of LInC 340 will be open:
- Monday-Thursday – 7:30 a.m.-9:00 p.m.
- Friday – 7:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
- Saturday – noon- 6:00 p.m.
- Sunday – 10:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m.
These resources are available throughout the term.
