Meet other students, volunteer, practice leadership, plan events or get involved with the Honors College this fall! The Honors College Student Association holds general meetings every Thursday from 6-7 p.m. in LInC 307. All HC students are welcome to join.
NEW! HCSA Krispy Kreme Fundraiser
Join us as we raise money for the Linn Benton County Food Drive during the month of February by purchasing Krispy Kreme Donuts! If you would like to purchase a box, please fill out this form by Monday, February 6. Each box will have a dozen glazed donuts in it for $15. Each dollar donated to the food drive is equivalent to gifting 7.5 pounds of food or 6 meals at the food pantry. Each person who purchases a box will also be entered into a raffle to win a Dutch Bros gift card! You will be able to pick up your donuts on Sunday, February 12th between 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.
STARTING THIS WEEK! HCSA/Linn-Benton Food Share Volunteer Opportunities
Interested in helping the Honors College Student Association raise money and collect food to donate to the Linn-Benton Food Share? Throughout the month of February, HCSA will be tabling on weekends at the Grocery Outlet in Corvallis, and we need plenty of help! We’re very flexible with scheduling and it’s a great way to get some volunteering hours in. If you’re interested sign up here! If none of the times work for you, there are a number of other ways to support the food drive, including donating non-perishables to collection boxes across campus or participating in our Krispy Kreme fundraiser. NEW! Learn About HC Study Abroad Opportunities
Join the Office of Global Opportunities and the Honors College to talk about study abroad opportunities! Jen Jewett, the OSU GO coordinator for our HC Faculty Led programs will be around to talk about program offerings and answer any questions you may have. THIS WEEK! 41st Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration 2023
Join us on Wednesday, February 1 from 7-8:30 p.m. for the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration Keynote. This is the longest running annual event at Oregon State University focused on social justice and transformative change. Keynote speaker Jelani Cobb is a staff writer at The New Yorker, writing on race, history, justice, politics, and democracy, as well as Columbia University’s Ira A. Lipman Professor of Journalism and next Dean of Columbia Journalism School. NEW! Back by Popular Demand! Honors College Faculty Led Study Abroad to London
Through classes and activities around the city, you’ll learn about London in the different time periods and from a variety of perspectives with faculty in liberal arts, and engineering. You’ll earn six total honors credits (four bacc core and two colloquium credits). Become an HC Representative at the Michigan Clinical Outcomes Research and Reporting Program
Through a generous gift by Dr. Kim Eagle (HC grad ’76), the Honors College is pleased to offer a paid internship with the Michigan Clinical Outcomes Research and Reporting Program (MCORRP). This summer internship program is a 10-week opportunity, starting in early June and concluding in August, at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor. More information can be found here. The internship includes a stipend, as well as a housing and travel allowance. To apply students should be interested in pursuing a career in healthcare, and be a strong steward of OSU and the Honors College. Preference will be given to students who are completing their third year of study within the HC. For additional details and to apply click here. Need a little help with writing, biology, chemistry, or math? Tutors are available for study groups. You do not need to be in honors versions or currently in the classes to come to study groups.
- Math: Tuesdays from 4-5 p.m. in LInC 437, Wednesdays from 5-6 p.m. in LInC 437, and Thursdays from 4-5 p.m. in LInC 360
- Physics: Tuesdays 1p.m. in LInC 437 and Wednesdays at 10 a.m. in LInC 437
- Chemistry: Wednesdays and Thursdays from 5-6 p.m. in the Sackett F/G Lounge (use the doorbell for access if you don’t live in Sackett)

Write for Inside Scoop
Do you have any tips for younger HC students? Do you have a unique HC experience you want to share? Do you want to have a piece of your writing published on the Honors Link blog? Apply to write an article for the HC’s Inside Scoop series. These are short (500-1000) word articles that capture aspects of being an honors student. Submit an article pitch here and get the inside scoop from other students on our blog.

Scholarship & Financial Aid Opportunities
SNAP Outreach at the BNC
Students may be eligible for $234 a month in grocery funds! SNAP is a federal nutrition benefits program, and the Basic Needs Center Center at Oregon State assists with applications! For more information visit the SNAP link here.
HC Differential Tuition Emergency Grant
The Honors College encourages students experiencing unusual financial challenges to apply for a one-term Honors College Differential Tuition and Emergency Grant of $500. This is not a scholarship and is designed to provide short-term, immediate support. Contact bailey.garvin@oregonstate.edu or an Honors College advisor with questions.
HC Experiential Award Application
Honors students who have submitted a thesis proposal are eligible to apply for an Honors Experiential Scholarship of up to $750 in support of participation at a professional conference or engagement in thesis research. Contact Kevin Stoller at kevin.stoller@oregonstate.edu with questions.

NEW! Discovering the Scientist Within Volunteer Opportunity
After two years of virtual programming Discovering the Scientist Within (DSW) is back in person! A half-day workshop designed to inspire middle school girls to pursue careers in STEM fields, 6th-8th grade participants will engage in two hands-on STEM activities in topics like computer science, pharmacy, forestry, engineering, or ocean science! The event will be Saturday, March 11, from 8:15 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. Registration will open in early February and will be on the DSW webpage. All youth must register individually. Questions are welcome at precollege@oregonstate.edu.

NEW! Conference Opportunity for Science Majors
The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS-PD) has an annual conference that is open to undergraduate students. This year they are partnering with the Northwest Scientific Association for a joint conference that will be held at Western Washington University (Bellingham, WA) from Tuesday, March 21 until Friday, March 24, with a remote option. PRIORITY DEADLINE! OSU Energy Efficiency Center Paid Job Opportunity
The OSU Energy Efficiency Center (EEC) is looking for motivated student energy/technical analysts to work part-time during the school year (10-12 hrs/week) and during the summer (30-40 hrs/week). The OSU EEC offers comprehensive, student-led, on-site energy and productivity assessments to small and medium-sized manufacturers through a US Department of Energy funded program. Student teams advised by engineering faculty visit manufacturers and seek ways to increase their productivity and reduce energy use and waste. These engineering analyses and improvement recommendations are compiled into a report and delivered to the client. It is a great way to see many different industrial processes and learn about ways to save energy. More information can be found here about the OSU Energy Efficiency Center. Student Symposium, Future Net-Zero Innovators
Boise State University, Idaho State University and the University of Idaho are hosting the first ever Future Net-Zero Innovators (FuNZI) symposium for undergraduate and graduate students at the Center for Advanced Energy Studies (CAES) in Idaho Falls, Idaho on Wednesday March 29 until Friday, March 31.
Topic sessions for the symposium include:
– Additive Manufacturing
– Advanced Materials
– Computational Modeling
– Energy Storage
– Environmental Energy Engagement
– Fusion Energy
– Nuclear Energy
– Renewable Sources
– Sustainability
– Waste Management
Students will have the option to present a poster and/or presentation in one of the following sessions listed above. In addition, students will have the opportunity to tour CAES and Idaho National Laboratory facilities as well as get to know local industry professionals that are working towards carbon neutrality. Academics for Student Athletes are now Hiring Tutors!
ASA is now hiring tutors for winter 2023. These are paid on-campus positions that offer flexible schedules. They are also a wonderful opportunity to use the content knowledge you have gained in the classroom, while also helping fellow students better gain subject mastery, and the organizational skills needed to excel at OSU. Tutor applicants must be sophomore standing and hold an overall GPA of 3.0 or above. Most tutoring will be performed in-person during winter term, but hybrid options are available. Apply for the “Robotics in the Real World” Summer REU
Applications are now open for the Oregon State University (OSU) “Robots in the Real World” summer Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Site. You can learn more about the program here. This year’s program will run from June 26 to September 1, 2023, on the main OSU campus in Corvallis, OR. We offer research experiences in all areas of robotics for undergraduate students with backgrounds in computer science, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, mathematics, physics, social science, or any closely related fields. Applications will be open here until Friday, February 10.

Participants Needed for ADHD Study!
The Impact of ADHD on Quality of Life and Peer Relations in College Students is a study being conducted for an Honors Thesis. Participation involves taking a 30-minute Qualtrics survey. To be eligible to participate, you must have ADHD (either official or self-diagnosis), be 18 or older, and be a college student. We will be collecting data until Sunday, February 12. Anytime Anywhere: MySSP @ OSU App
Anytime Anywhere: MySSP @ OSU is an app that gives all OSU students, including Ecampus students, 24/7 access by text or phone with a licensed mental health counselor (MySSP stands for “My Student Support Program”). The app makes it easy to schedule short-term counseling appointments with the same ongoing counselor and provides educational materials covering mental health topics. Students can communicate with a counselor in five different languages (Mandarin, Cantonese, French, Spanish or English); additional language options are available upon request. Beavs Volunteer
Join us once or weekly for a volunteer service project at Heartland Humane Shelter & Care, Room at the Inn, Parks & Recreation, Starker Arts Garden for Education (SAGE), or Habitat for Humanity. Volunteers will be maintaining space for animals and have a chance to play with them, provide emergency meals & housing, enhance parks & trails, help grow food for low income families. Your service will help provide meals & housing for people in need, create a more welcoming place for the animals, or work toward affordable housing and housing equity. Register here.

Alternative Spring Break
Looking for a transformative experience this coming Spring Break?! Alternative Break offers weeklong service-learning programs traveling to Washington, Southern Oregon, and California during OSU’s spring break in March! During these multi-day, overnight programs, groups of 10-12 students immerse themselves in one of three Pacific Northwest communities to learn its historical, cultural, and political background. Students engage in a variety of direct service projects, educational conversations and presentations, and reflective dialogue with leaders and change-makers in their respective communities.
There are three program locations:

Togetherall is a safe, online community to share anonymously and get support to improve mental health and well-being. The Togetherall community is available 24/7 and is monitored by licensed mental health practitioners. Join the community and learn more here.
HC Resources
The Honors College main office in LInC 450 is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. HC staff is on hand during business hours to assist with questions, help with scheduling appointments or just chat and share some free candy. You can also get in touch with the main office by contacting honors.college@oregonstate.edu or by calling 541.737.6400.
- The student computer lab and lounge (the SLUG) on the third floor of LInC 340 will be open:

“Forgot Your Lunch?” Station Available in SLUG
The Honors College is back with a “Forgot Your Lunch?” station for you to have a snack or light lunch if you ever need it. Whether you need food because you forgot your lunch, are low on money or simply need a snack, please help yourself to this free resource. The resource is self-serve and can be accessed any time that the SLUG is open in the kitchen area.
