HCSA Brighten a Day by Writing Letters!
The HCSA is putting on an event through the organization “Brighten A Day.” We are looking for volunteers to make uplifting cards and letters to send out to retirement homes and hospitals! We will have a box in the SLUG that you can put your cards and crafts in! We would appreciate you taking the time to make something as it has been creating very positive, grateful and joyful attitudes/feelings among the recipients!
Forgot Your Lunch?
Heading to class on an empty stomach? The HC has your back! Whether you are waiting on your next paycheck or running low on groceries, stop by the SLUG kitchen cabinet to make a sandwich, eat some oatmeal or grab a bowl of soup. Open to all HC students, this free resource is first come, first served and supplies are limited — take what you need and leave what you can for the next HC Beaver in need of a bite!

NEW & TODAY! 2022 Honors College Graduation Series
The countdown to commencement 2022 has begun, and the Honors College is celebrating our largest ever class of honors graduates beginning TODAY, May 23, across all HC social media pages with our Honors College graduation series! If you graduated or are set to graduate during the 2021-22 academic year, click here to submit your photo and message to be featured in the HC alumni gallery, and keep an eye out for your spotlight on the HC Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram pages!

Scholarship and Financial Aid Opportunities
University Legislative Scholars Program
With thanks to Provost Ed Feser for continued financial support, the University Legislative Scholars Program is recruiting students for the 2022-23 academic year. Get involved with policy, creating individual development plans and scholars. There are four main goals in this program. First, to ensure that voices that have historically been absent from the decision-making process in Oregon are heard. Second, to facilitate experiential learning and the long-term professional development in the political and public policy process across all academic disciplines, with particular attention to historically marginalized populations. Third, to support higher education in the Oregon legislative process in order to rectify decisions and actions that limit access and affordability and that contribute to long-term debt for students and their families; and lastly, to help students find their own path toward professional and educational engagement in a public policy issue of their choosing. There are credit and non-credit options for this program, and scholarships are available to cover the cost of base tuition. All majors are encouraged to apply here to this program!
Google Women of Color in Tech Scholarship
The CS-ER team is very excited to share information with you about a new Google-sponsored scholarship. The new Women of Color in Tech Scholarship is intended to help raise awareness about the gender gap in tech and the barriers women of color face in entering the industry. The scholarship, administered by Scholly (a scholarship organization) will provide 20 scholarships for $10,000 each to Black, Latina and/or Native senior high school or undergraduate women students who are currently pursuing a computing-related degree and wish to use the funding to support a computer science higher education degree. SNAP Outreach at the HSRC
Students may be eligible for $234 a month in grocery funds! SNAP is a federal nutrition benefits program, and the Human Services Resource Center at Oregon State assists with applications! For more information visit the SNAP link here.
Honors College Experiential Award Application

NEW! Academics for Student Athletes is Hiring Tutors and Mentors!
Are you interested in being a tutor? Sophomores, juniors and seniors can apply to be a tutor through the Beth Ray Center during the summer and fall quarters. This job will be one-on-one tutoring for up to twenty hours a week based on major and course experience. Mentors provide a similar service and support students through their academic studies. Become an Honors Faculty Mentor with OSU’s Beaver Connect Program
Beaver Connect is looking for honors faculty mentors for the 2022-23 academic year! Faculty mentors will work alongside an honors undergraduate student serving as a peer mentor for a group of new HC students at our Corvallis campus next year. This program prioritizes applications from students of color, first-generation college students and those with high financial need entering OSU as new first-year or transfer students. OPEnS Lab Job Opportunity
The OPEnS Lab seeks undergraduate researchers to work in a hands-on technology-rich makerspace to produce next generation sensing technologies for environmental research. On Tuesday, May 24, make sure to attend the last Crafternoon session of the year! Come meet new people and have a fun crafting experience. This event is taking place from 2-4 p.m. at the Hattie Redmond Women and Gender Center.
NEW! Native American Flute Circle
On Wednesday, May 25 from 12-1 p.m., make sure to attend the annual gathering of the Oregon State University Native American style flute circle, led by music instructor Jan Looking Wolf Reibach. This event is taking place in the SEC Plaza. Past flute circle gatherings at Oregon State are thought to be the largest in the world. They have brought together past and present students of Music 108, one of the most popular baccalaureate core courses at OSU, in a celebration of cultural diversity and togetherness.
THIS WEEK! Witness War Photographers on the Battle Ground with National Geographic Editor-in-Chief Chris Johns
Ever since Roger Fenton took the first photographs of war in Crimea in 1855, photographers have risked their lives to make images of what they have witnessed in the heat of battle. Those photographs have brought wars home to millions of people and influenced public opinion and public policy. On Wednesday, May 25 at 5:30 p.m. at the LaSelles Stewart Center, come hear acclaimed photojournalist Chris Johns share essential insights on conflict photography, from 1855 to the 2022 invasion of Ukraine, and give the inside story on pivotal images that have changed our world.

Academic success workshops are back! Workshops begin week 2 of spring term and continue through week 9. Join on Tuesdays at 12 p.m. or Wednesdays at 6 p.m. to connect with peers and learn strategies to manage multiple responsibilities and deadlines, harness attention and memory, design and take effective breaks, and more! SLUG Hours and Info!
The HC student learning space in the Learning Innovation Center, room 340 – called the SLUG – is open! Winter term SLUG hours:
– Sunday – 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
– Monday-Thursday – 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
– Friday – 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
– Saturday – noon to 6 p.m.
The SLUG features study and social areas, more than 20 computers, a scanner and a friendly HC student staff member who can help with any questions. In addition, honors students can print for free when using SLUG computers! The SLUG also offers a small kitchen. Bring your own coffee pods and brew up a cup in our new Keurig machine! The HC Forgot Your Lunch food cabinet is available as well with free snacks for anyone who needs it. All students visiting the SLUG will be expected to sign in and wear masks while using the facility. Please contact honors.college@oregonstate.edu with questions.
