NEW! Donuts with Benny
On Friday, May 13 from 5-7 p.m. in the West Main Lounge, West & Sackett residents are invited to have donuts with and pose for a picture with Benny the Beaver. Attendees will be able to have a picture with Benny, grab a donut and celebrate midterms and the academic year. Please join us for a study break! Gluten-free and vegan donuts will be available.

Join us at 10 am on Saturday, May 14 in a game of capture the flag on Peavy Field! Enjoy snacks and a study break in the sun! Wear black to represent West and orange to represent Sackett. Let the games begin!
NEW! HCSA Brighten a Day by Writing Letters!
The HCSA is putting on an event through the organization “Brighten A Day.” We are looking for volunteers to make uplifting cards and letters to send out to retirement homes and hospitals! We will have a box in the SLUG that you can put your cards and crafts in! We would appreciate you taking the time to make something as it has been creating very positive, grateful and joyful attitudes/feelings among the recipients!

Take a tour of Gene Tools LLC! Gene Tools is a biotech company that specializes in manufacturing and producing Morphosinos that are used for reverse genetics. The HCSA will be visiting Gene Tools on May 13 at 11 a.m. OSU is not providing transportation. If you are interested RSVP here.
Honors College Spring Gala
You are invited to the Honors College Spring Gala on Friday, May 20! Join fellow Honors College students in celebrating the end of a successful school year with music, dinner and fun. Dressing up is encouraged. Doors and dinner service open at 6:00 p.m., short awards ceremony starts at 6:30 p.m. and the evening ends at 9:00 p.m. RSVP here by Monday, May 16.

NEW! HC Dean and Friends Conversation Series: Pathways to Success with Clayton Patch, VP of Manufacturing, QuantumScape
The next speaker in the Honors College’s Pathways to Career Leadership Dean and Friends series, Clayton Patch, will join us via Zoom on Friday, May 13 from 12-12:50 p.m. Clayton earned his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering and a Master of Business Administration from Brigham Young University. Upon graduation, his career began in Boise, ID, as a shift equipment engineer at Micron Technology, an Idaho-based company specializing in computer memory and computer data storage. After transferring to Intel-Micron Flash Technologies, where he held several roles, Clayton implemented many of the manufacturing best-known methods that are used by both Intel and Micron Technology today. Clayton also played a pivotal role in the ramp up and formation of the R&D Lehi Technology Center, where the first generation of 3DxP technology was developed, and later went on to lead the team that developed and advanced emerging memory solutions for Micron’s X100 SSD product. In 2021, Clayton transitioned into battery manufacturing and now serves as the VP of Manufacturing at QuantumScape, a California-based solid-state battery manufacturer, where he is responsible for ramping a new lithium anode battery technology manufacturing facility. UPDATE! Honors College Eighth at OSU in Dam Proud Day Fundraising!
Wednesday, April 27 was the third annual Oregon State University Day of Giving, Dam Proud Day, and the Honors College ranked eighth at OSU in total dollars raised, with almost $52,000 given by nearly 90 donors to support Differential Tuition Scholarships! The Honors College is so grateful to everyone who was able to support students.
Honors College Thesis Research Conference
Explore the diversity of Honors College research and engage with honors students at the 2022 Honors College Thesis Research Conference on May 16-20. Come listen to students give lightning talks in LInC 228 on Thursday, May 19 from 4-5:30 p.m. and Friday, May 20 from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. A selection of students will also display their research posters in the hallways of the LInC from 1-3 p.m. on Friday, May 20. Dean and Friends Conversation – Forging a Path in Graduate School: It’s Okay to Not Know Everything
All Honors College students are invited to join Honors College grad Alden Moss ’17 on Monday, May 16 at noon in LInC 345 for a conversation on “Forging a Path in Graduate School.” Alden is currently a fifth-year Ph.D. student in the UC Berkeley-UCSF graduate program in bioengineering and a Siebel Scholar, working on a dissertation in developing single-cell protein and nucleic acid assays to advance precision biological research. At this conversation, he’ll share how pursuing a Ph.D. can be a great opportunity to explore non-academic interests and career paths, drawing on his own process of discovering his interests in graduate school. Scholarship and Financial Aid Opportunities
NEW! University Legislative Scholars Program
With thanks to Provost Ed Feser for continued financial support, the University Legislative Scholars Program is recruiting students for the 2022-23 academic year. Get involved with policy, creating individual development plans and scholars. There are four main goals in this program. First, to ensure that voices that have historically been absent from the decision-making process in Oregon are heard. Second, to facilitate experiential learning and the long-term professional development in the political and public policy process across all academic disciplines, with particular attention to historically marginalized populations. Third, to support higher education in the Oregon legislative process in order to rectify decisions and actions that limit access and affordability and that contribute to long-term debt for students and their families; and lastly, to help students find their own path toward professional and educational engagement in a public policy issue of their choosing. There are credit and non-credit options for this program, and scholarships are available to cover the cost of base tuition. All majors are encouraged to apply here to this program!
Google Women of Color in Tech Scholarship
The CS-ER team is very excited to share information with you about a new Google-sponsored scholarship. The new Women of Color in Tech Scholarship is intended to help raise awareness about the gender gap in tech and the barriers women of color face in entering the industry. The scholarship, administered by Scholly (a scholarship organization) will provide 20 scholarships for $10,000 each to Black, Latina and/or Native senior high school or undergraduate women students who are currently pursuing a computing-related degree and wish to use the funding to support a computer science higher education degree. SNAP Outreach at the HSRC
Students may be eligible for $234 a month in grocery funds! SNAP is a federal nutrition benefits program, and the Human Services Resource Center at Oregon State assists with applications! For more information visit the SNAP link here.

NEW! Become a START Leader!
The Office of Student Orientation seeks to hire six Administrative START Leaders (ASL) to support the transition of the incoming class. ASLs work 1:1 and through email and phone with incoming students, as well as their families, to answer questions and ease their transition to Oregon State. This is an in-person position in Corvallis, OR, and requires successful candidates to be available on specific dates (posted in the job description). ASLs will work with START leaders, Senior START Leaders and the rest of the orientation staff in a fun, team-oriented environment throughout the summer. DEADLINE TODAY! Art-Science Student Fellowship Opportunity
This one-year fellowship offers OSU students the opportunity to explore the intersection of the arts and sciences. Fellows will develop a creative project informed by engagement with lab or field research, be awarded a $1,000 stipend, have ongoing mentorship, and receive a residency at the Cabin at Shotpouch Creek. Become an Honors Faculty Mentor with OSU’s Beaver Connect Program
Beaver Connect is looking for honors faculty mentors for the 2022-23 academic year! Faculty mentors will work alongside an honors undergraduate student serving as a peer mentor for a group of new HC students at our Corvallis campus next year. This program prioritizes applications from students of color, first-generation college students and those with high financial need entering OSU as new first-year or transfer students. Faculty who share these identities are especially welcome. To express interest and/or sign up for the 2022-23 program, please complete this short questionnaire by June 15. UPCOMING DEADLINE! Become a Peer Mentor with OSU’s Beaver Connect Program
The Honors College is looking for Beaver Connect peer mentors to help guide incoming honors students for the 2022-2023 academic year. Training will be offered during summer and fall, and official program duties will last from fall 2022 to spring 2023. Peer mentors will join a team of one faculty member and 3-4 incoming OSU honors students. The peer mentor experience is paid and has a lot to offer students, including boosting your leadership skills, improving your career profile, meeting new people and gaining a fulfilling experience. Kindergarten Readiness Research Program
This research opportunity is being provided through the Kindergarten Readiness Research Program at OSU, and this opportunity will begin in the fall of 2022. They currently have federal grant to scale up and test the efficacy of their Red Light, Purple Light (RLPL) movement and music self-regulation intervention in preschool children. They are looking for Undergraduate Research Assistants who are interested in working with young children in school settings and learning about research and education in the real world.
OPEnS Lab Job Opportunity
The OPEnS Lab seeks undergraduate researchers to work in a hands-on technology-rich makerspace to produce next generation sensing technologies for environmental research. Start Planning Your Summer 2022 Studies at the Oregon Coast
All OSU students are invited to register for Summer Field Courses at the Hatfield Marine Science Center and become immersed in coastal living and learning at the Oregon coast! Earn college credit while getting unique field experience, and connect with faculty from OSU to learn about coastal and ocean ecosystems, marine species and conservation. SLUG Hours and Info!
The HC student learning space in the Learning Innovation Center, room 340 – called the SLUG – is open! Winter term SLUG hours:
– Sunday – 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
– Monday-Thursday – 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
– Friday – 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
– Saturday – noon to 6 p.m.
The SLUG features study and social areas, more than 20 computers, a scanner and a friendly HC student staff member who can help with any questions. In addition, honors students can print for free when using SLUG computers! The SLUG also offers a small kitchen. Bring your own coffee pods and brew up a cup in our new Keurig machine! The HC Forgot Your Lunch food cabinet is available as well with free snacks for anyone who needs it. All students visiting the SLUG will be expected to sign in and wear masks while using the facility. Please contact honors.college@oregonstate.edu with questions.
