NEW! Honors College Hiring Tutors in Physics and Chemistry
The Honors College is seeking applicants for two tutoring positions within Physics and Chemistry beginning spring term. Both positions are responsible for holding tutoring hours, and assisting students with questions related to a variety of courses. 

Physics tutor applicants should be able to provide help with courses including PH 211-213, PH 106, PH 203, and PH 221-223(H). Applicants must have completed through PH 213 with an earned grade of B or higher, be able to hold 90 minutes of tutoring each week, be open to questions and be dependable. Chemistry tutor applicants should be able to provide help with courses including CH 121, CH 201, CH 221-223(H), and CH 331. Applicants must have completed through CH 331 with an earned grade of B or higher, be able to hold 90 minutes of tutoring each week, be open to questions and be dependable. NEW! Publish Academic and Creative work in Aisthesis!
University of Minnesota Duluth’s Honors Program is currently seeking academic and creative submissions for the 2020 issue of Aisthesis, our undergraduate honors journal. As an interdisciplinary publication, we welcome academic work, including honors capstone projects, literature reviews, and research articles from all fields of research. Creative submissions of nonfiction, fiction, poetry, and visual art (including but not limited to painting, sculpture, short film, multimedia, and photography) are also encouraged. If you are hoping to build your resume, share your work, and publish as an undergraduate, this is the perfect opportunity for you!

LAST CALL! Annual HC Student Art Showcase & Sale: Submissions due March 5
The Honors College presents the annual student art showcase. The HC is looking to add to their permanent wall art collection and is holding an art showcase to select a few pieces for purchase. Students interested in displaying and potentially selling a piece of their art should complete the registration form here and submit their framed art to the HC office – 450 LINC – by March 5. All art will be displayed in March with the winner being announced on Mar. 12 at the HC3 event. Select art pieces may be purchased by the Honors College for up to $250 per art piece and historically displayed in LINC spaces.

Registration and framed artwork must be submitted no later than Thursday, March 5. If you’re interested in participating but the cost or process of framing is prohibiting you from doing so we may be able to offer assistance – contact us at 541-737-6400 or honors.college@oregonstate.edu.

Seeking CPHHS student to fill a vacant HC Student Leadership Circle Seat
The Honors College Student Leadership Circle (SLC) is a diverse set of student voices advising the deans and directors on various topics affecting students, their educational and social experiences at the Oregon State University Honors College. We are seeking a new student member from the College of Public Health and Human Sciences to participate in the circle for the remainder of this academic year. The SLC provides feedback on high-level college strategy, program interventions, and curricular initiatives.Additionally, representatives are charged with special initiatives to strengthen the sense of community and continue to build relationships with academic departments in hopes of enhancing the Honors College experience for all students.

To be considered for selection, PHHS student applicants must be available to attend quarterly meetings and be willing to share advice and counsel to college leadership on issues and concerns. All participants must be willing to seek input from relevant student groups when issues arise and engage in ways that enhance the general well-being of the population that make up the Honors College.

Graduation 2020 Help!
Are you within three terms of graduating from OSU? Consider attending an Honors College graduation session to get all your questions answered as you near graduation. Learn about HC graduation activities, final thesis responsibilities, your remaining HC requirements, and recommended practices to ensure a smooth and successful path to becoming an Honors College alum. The next session will take place on Monday, March 9 from 9:00 – 9:45 a.m. in LINC 444.

Honors College T-Shirt Design Competition
Are you artistic? Do you want to design a new Honors College t-shirt? HCSA is running a competition to design the new Honors College t-shirt; submit a t-shirt design and it may become the new Honors College t-shirt! The winning design will win a free t-shirt. Shirts will be available for order once a winner has been selected, and ready for collection before the end of Spring term. All proceeds will go to the Honors College Differential Tuition Scholarship. Submit your design at this link.

Submissions will be accepted from February 10th to March 29th.
Voting for winning design will be from April 6th to April 13th.

HC Scholarships

Gilman Scholarship & Gilman-McCain Scholarship
Interested in studying abroad? You might be eligible for the Gilman Scholarship, a grant program that enables students of limited financial means to study or intern abroad. The application deadline for programs in Summer 2020, Fall 2020, Academic Year 2020/2021, and early decision Winter and Spring 2021 is March 3, 2020. In order to meet the eligibility requirements, students must:

• Be a citizen of the United States
• Be receiving a Federal Pell Grant
• Be an undergraduate in good standing
• Be in the process of applying to, or accepted for, a study abroad or internship program of at least three weeks. The program must be eligible for credit from OSU.

There is also a new scholarship, the Gilman-McCain Scholarship, which is specifically for child dependents of active duty military members. Applicants for this scholarship can be recipients of any type of Title IV federal financial aid, not just the Pell Grant. Otherwise, the eligibility requirements for the program abroad are the same. NEW! Resident Assistant (RA) Application due SOON!
The Resident Assistant position is a live-in, peer mentorship, student staff position working an average of 15 hours a week within the Residence Halls on the Oregon State University Corvallis campus. RAs are assigned to a wing or floor of residents within that community.

RAs are responsible for creating and maintaining emotionally and physically safe and secure residential communities. RAs are called upon to effectively respond to and manage a variety of crisis and emergency situations. They play a key role in creating environments that encourage all students to be academically and personally successful. To apply, go HERE!

NEW! Student Communications and Design Outreach Assistant
Oregon Sea Grant’s “Don’t Pack a Pest for Academic Travelers Program” invites applications for a part time (10-16 hours a week) communications and design assistant. The student will support the Don’t Pack a Pest for Academic Travelers Research Program, which aims to understand the academic traveler’s (faculty, international students, and study-abroad students) knowledge and awareness of the Don’t Pack a Pest campaign, and to develop appropriate pre-arrival education materials tailored for students and faculty. This project addresses the global problem of invasive species, which are plants, animals, pests, and diseases that can hitchhike with international travelers and cause widespread harm our ecosystems, economy, and human health.

The position assists the supervisor and research team primarily on the communications and marketing portion of project implementation but will have the opportunity to engage in all aspects of the project, including research, needs assessment and product development; education programming development, implementation, outreach and evaluation of the Don’t Pack a Pest for Academic Travelers program.

NEW! Grad Inspire Event
Grad Inspire (formerly GRADx) combines scholarship communication with personal narrative, giving us a glimpse of not only “how” these students perform their work, but also the motivations and commitment behind it. This event introduces the phenomenal breadth of research, teaching, and discovery undertaken by graduate students at Oregon State.

Grad Inspire will take place on March 3 from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. in the Memorial Union Ballroom. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for free drinks and refreshments with the program starting at 6 p.m. Beverages donated by Block 15.

NEW! Honors Student Seeking Adults with Physical Disabilities for Research Study
The Oregon State University Department of Mechanical, Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering is seeking current OSU students who are at least 18 years old and live with a physical disability to participate in a research study. The purpose of this study is to characterize the ethical dilemmas associated with human enhancement technology to mitigate or overcome disability.

Participation in this study involves:
-Meeting with a student researcher for a one-on-one interview of no more than 30 minutes, at a location of your convenience
-$10 cash compensation

Enroll in Innovation for Social Impact (HEST/ANTH 199)!
Whether it is innovations to slow climate change, improve health, or increase social justice, there are endless ways to have a positive impact on society through design of technologies and services. Join faculty from engineering and anthropology with guest lectures from entrepreneurs to design solutions to apply tools from those fields to address a current social issue that resonates with you. All majors are encouraged to participate in this multidisciplinary project-based course from the core humanitarian engineering curriculum. Safegaurd Youth
Leadership opportunities are available through Safeguard Youth a youth-led, state-wide 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide a platform for youth and survivors of child abuse to advocate and defend higher-quality child welfare. Oregon has one of the worst child welfare systems in the country and is currently facing a federal lawsuit because of it; That’s why an OSU student and survivor of child abuse for 13 years, started Safeguard Youth. Now, we’re rapidly growing to Linfield, UofO, PSU, Southern Oregon and beyond. We’re meeting with representatives and dozens of nonprofits and businesses. As a result, we’ve recently rolled out several new student leadership positions which include (but are not limited to): Campus representatives, Events manager, Communications director, Treasure and Financial Director, Cultural/diversity coordinators, and advocacy and policy advisor. The Honors College has launched a “Forgot your lunch?” station for you to have a snack or light lunch if you ever need it. Whether you need food because you forgot your lunch, are low on money, or simply need a snack – please help yourself to this free resource. The resource is self-serving and can be accessed any time that the SLUG is open in the kitchen area. Need Access to West or Sackett Hall?
All Honors College students can access the West Hall main lounge, and Sackett Hall lounge and conference spaces on the east side of the building. If you live on-campus your OSU student ID has been programmed to allow you access into the Sackett F or E door (those main entrances on the east side of the building near wings F/G and E/H) and the main entrances to West Hall (both the east and west doors). Just place your ID up to the black proxy scanner and the door will unlock. If for some reason your ID is not coded properly request access by completing the survey at https://oregonstate.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_bmcLh4dwiae87YN

Access to West and Sackett common spaces is available Sunday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday & Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. These spaces are wonderful if you are looking for a place to meet with your study group, or find a quiet place to spread out. Use the space frequently as access expires if not used within 3 weeks. As a reminder, HC study groups and HC academic advising drop-in hours are also available in these spaces.
