Course Highlight: FES 485H and Summer Course Registration
Be sure to register for Summer Honors Bacc Core and Colloquia courses! FES 485H: Consensus and Natural Resources is a 3-credit Ecampus course offered during Summer 2024 which fulfills the Bacc Core: Synthesis, Science/Technology/Society. Instructor: Stacy Rosenberg. Description: Using a working group approach, select a natural resource topic, study the team process and interaction as a method of learning, explore the issue using systems practice, and strive for consensus on solutions to the issue. The HC also allows for non-honors students to fill empty seats in honors classes. If interested, they can fill out a request here.
Complete the Honors College Annual Survey
The HC is committed to improving and developing programs and curriculum for our students. Your feedback is a crucial part of that process! Please Complete Honors Course Evaluations
Course evaluations help the Honors College to guide curriculum decisions and to add variety from different disciplines. The OSU Student Learning Experience Surveys (SLEs) now include a block of four questions specific to honors courses. Please take the time to fill out the entire SLE for all your honors classes. Links to the SLE aresent to your ONID email and automatically added to Canvas course sites.
Honors College Graduation Celebration
HC Graduates from Summer ’23-Summer ’24 are invited to join the Honors College deans and staff on Friday, June 14 from 4-6 p.m. in the LInC Lawn as we celebrate the accomplishments of honors students at the 2024 Honors College Graduation Celebration! There will be gifts for graduates, light refreshments and opportunities for photos at this event. Students and families are welcome to arrive any time from 4-5:30 p.m.
Summer Read 2024: Solito by Javier Zamora
This summer, incoming students will read Javier Zamora’s gripping memoir, Solito. This is the story of Zamora’s migration at age nine from El Salvador to the U.S. as an unaccompanied minor. We invite everyone to read this year’s selection, and to that end we have provided copies of the book that you can check out at Valley Library Reserves (four copies in English and one in Spanish). See availability and location. On Wednesday October 16, Zamora will come to campus to meet with honors students and participate in a moderated conversation at PRAx, the new performing arts center. Honors College students who graduated or are graduating between Fall 2023 and Summer 2024, submit to our Alumni Gallery to share your accomplishments and future plans. ONGOING! Drop-in Thesis Support
Starting in week 4, we’re excited to offer drop-in thesis hours in LInC 450. Hosted by Dewi Roberts, the Advising Coordinator for the HC, they’ll run Monday through Friday between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. Whether you’re grappling with formatting challenges for your pre-text pages, have questions about the external communication requirement, would like to schedule your thesis, or encounter any other thesis-related issues, this is your opportunity to seek assistance.

Scholarship & Financial Aid Opportunities
HC Differential Tuition Emergency Grant
The Honors College encourages students experiencing unusual financial challenges to apply for a one-term Honors College Differential Tuition and Emergency Grant of $500. This is not a scholarship and is designed to provide short-term, immediate support. Contact bailey.garvin@oregonstate.edu or an Honors College advisor with questions.
HC Experiential Award Application
Honors students who have submitted a thesis proposal are eligible to apply for an Honors Experiential Scholarship of up to $750 in support of participation at a professional conference or engagement in thesis research. Contact Kevin Stoller at kevin.stoller@oregonstate.edu with questions.

NEW! Mechanical Engineering Intern Position
Overwatch Imaging automates the collection, analysis, and delivery of time-critical geospatial intelligence for missions that matter. Overwatch is seeking an intern who will design, build, and test gimballed multi-camera imaging system components and assemblies in support of automated airborne intelligence payloads. The multidisciplinary engineering student will aid in the design and building of motion control elements, electromagnetic and environmental compatibility solutions, manufacturing assembly aids and fixtures, and aircraft integration structures to bring new aerial imaging systems from customer order to fully mission operational. NEW! Plan Ahead for Fall Career Fairs!
Fairs are a chance for OSU students to meet with businesses and organizations who are interested in recruiting them. Students can come to one event and interact with multiple potential employers offering part-time, full-time, and internship opportunities. Even if you are not ready to launch into a post-graduation career, these events are a great opportunity for students to start making connections and researching possibilities. Mark these Fall term fairs on your calendar: Part-time Job Fair on Tuesday, October 2, 2024; Virtual Career and Internship Fair on Wednesday, October 16, 2024; Civil, Construction & Arch. Engr. Student Position Opening: Design for Social Impact Ambassador
The Design for Social Impact (DSI) undergraduate certificate program is now accepting Ambassador applications to fill two part-time positions. Ambassadors are current OSU students who host information sessions on campus, represent DSI at on-campus and off-campus recruiting and Alumni events, and connect with prospective DSI students and families. OSU Energy Efficiency Center is Hiring
Would you be interested in an on-campus job working with industry clients to reduce energy use and improve productivity, while applying what you are learning in your classes? The OSU Energy Efficiency Center (EEC) is looking for motivated student energy analysts to work part-time during the school year (10-20 hrs/week) and during the summer (~40 hrs/week). The OSU EEC offers comprehensive, student-led, on-site energy and productivity assessments to small and medium-sized manufacturers through a US Department of Energy funded program. Student teams advised by engineering faculty visit manufacturers and seek ways to increase their productivity and reduce energy use and waste. Learn more about the OSU Energy Efficiency Center here. GMB is an international non-profit organization that consists of students and medical professionals working alongside local communities and staff to implement sustainable health systems. The OSU Alumni Association is polishing the disco ball left behind by past Beavs to throw a party exclusively for the Class of 2024. Grads, grab your sequins and join your friends on Thursday, June 6 from 7-10 p.m. for a funky night full of food and drinks, music and dancing, games, cap decorating, friendship bracelet making, photo booths, raffle giveaways and more! THIS WEEK! The Engineering Expo
On Friday, June 7, See more than 200 interactive student project displays that use science and technology to take on some of the world’s biggest problems. Experience the depth and breadth of engineering talent and ingenuity at Oregon State University. The Expo is free and open to the public. The format of the event allows attendees to visit the projects anytime throughout the day. A Virtual Expo option will also be available for those unable to travel to Corvallis. Register here. Borrow your Textbooks for Free!
The Basic Needs Center (BNC) has a Textbook Lending Library open to all on-campus students that includes books, calculators, chemistry model sets, and more. Visit their Textbook Lending Program website to see resources available at the BNC. Visit the BNC in-person at Champinefu Lodge to check out course materials.
HC Resources
The Honors College main office in LInC 450 is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. HC staff is on hand during business hours to assist with questions, help with scheduling appointments or just chat and share some free candy. HC Study Groups
Need a way to deepen your understanding of course material, discuss challenging concepts and study for upcoming exams and assignments with your fellow Beavs? Sign up for the fall term HC study groups! Study groups are a great way to receive extra academic support in any of your courses. If you would like to participate in fall term HC study groups, please email bailey.garvin@oregonstate.edu.
“Forgot Your Lunch?” Station Available in SLUG
The Honors College is back with a “Forgot Your Lunch?” station for you to have a snack or light lunch if you ever need it. Whether you need food because you forgot your lunch, are low on money or simply need a snack, please help yourself to this free resource. The resource is self-serve and can be accessed any time that the SLUG is open in the kitchen area. The student computer lab and lounge (the SLUG) on the third floor of LInC 340 will be open:
- Monday-Thursday – 7:30 a.m.-9:00 p.m.
- Friday – 7:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
- Saturday – noon- 6:00 p.m.
- Sunday – 10:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m.
These resources are available throughout the term.
