THIS WEEK! HC Spring Gala
All Honors College students are invited to HCSA’s Spring Gala for a night of music, dancing, activities and celebration on Thursday, May 23rd from 6-9 p.m. in the MU ballroom. Semi-formal attire is encouraged. While we acknowledge that many students have friends outside of the Honors College, we ask that students refrain from bringing guests unless they are also members of the Honors College. RSVP here. Honors College Graduation Celebration
HC Graduates from Summer ’23-Summer ’24 are invited to join the Honors College deans and staff on Friday, June 14 from 4-6 p.m. in the LInC Lawn as we celebrate the accomplishments of honors students at the 2024 Honors College Graduation Celebration! There will be gifts for graduates, light refreshments and opportunities for photos at this event. Students and families are welcome to arrive any time from 4-5:30 p.m.
Summer Read 2024: Solito by Javier Zamora
This summer, incoming students will read Javier Zamora’s gripping memoir, Solito. This is the story of Zamora’s migration at age nine from El Salvador to the U.S. as an unaccompanied minor. We invite everyone to read this year’s selection, and to that end we have provided copies of the book that you can check out at Valley Library Reserves (four copies in English and one in Spanish). See availability and location. On Wednesday October 16, Zamora will come to campus to meet with honors students and participate in a moderated conversation at PRAx, the new performing arts center. Honors College students who graduated or are graduating between Fall 2023 and Summer 2024, submit to our Alumni Gallery to share your accomplishments and future plans. ONGOING! Drop-in Thesis Support
Starting in week 4, we’re excited to offer drop-in thesis hours in LInC 450. Hosted by Dewi Roberts, the Advising Coordinator for the HC, they’ll run Monday through Friday between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. Whether you’re grappling with formatting challenges for your pre-text pages, have questions about the external communication requirement, would like to schedule your thesis, or encounter any other thesis-related issues, this is your opportunity to seek assistance.
ONGOING! Honors Graduation Regalia Donations
The Honors College encourages recent graduates to donate their HC Graduation Regalia to our office so that they can be borrowed for future students in an effort to be more sustainable and save students the investment. If recent graduates still have their Honors College stole/tam and want to donate them for future HC grads, they can drop them off at the office Monday-Friday 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., or they can mail them to the Honors College Office. Please list Laura Blackwell (laura.blackwell@oregonstate.edu) as the contact person if anyone has any questions.

Whether you’re unsure of what to do for your thesis or just want some research experience, you can check out the page to see what options are currently available. Scholarship & Financial Aid Opportunities
HC Differential Tuition Emergency Grant
The Honors College encourages students experiencing unusual financial challenges to apply for a one-term Honors College Differential Tuition and Emergency Grant of $500. This is not a scholarship and is designed to provide short-term, immediate support. Contact bailey.garvin@oregonstate.edu or an Honors College advisor with questions.
HC Experiential Award Application
Honors students who have submitted a thesis proposal are eligible to apply for an Honors Experiential Scholarship of up to $750 in support of participation at a professional conference or engagement in thesis research. Contact Kevin Stoller at kevin.stoller@oregonstate.edu with questions.

DUE TODAY! Beaver Connect Peer Mentor Positions
Beaver Connect is looking for Peer Mentors for 2024-2025 mentoring teams at the Corvallis campus! This program matches you with a faculty member to co-mentor a group of 3-4 new-to-OSU students. Together, you’ll lead crucial discussions on navigating college, achieving success, and getting more out of the OSU experience. This is a paid position that will allow you to make connections with faculty and peers and develop resume-building leadership skills! We are particularly interested in undergraduate students who identify as students of color, first-generation students, students with high-financial need, and transfer students. Student Position Opening: Design for Social Impact Ambassador
The Design for Social Impact (DSI) undergraduate certificate program is now accepting Ambassador applications to fill two part-time positions. Ambassadors are current OSU students who host information sessions on campus, represent DSI at on-campus and off-campus recruiting and Alumni events, and connect with prospective DSI students and families. OSU Energy Efficiency Center is Hiring
Would you be interested in an on-campus job working with industry clients to reduce energy use and improve productivity, while applying what you are learning in your classes? The OSU Energy Efficiency Center (EEC) is looking for motivated student energy analysts to work part-time during the school year (10-20 hrs/week) and during the summer (~40 hrs/week). The OSU EEC offers comprehensive, student-led, on-site energy and productivity assessments to small and medium-sized manufacturers through a US Department of Energy funded program. Student teams advised by engineering faculty visit manufacturers and seek ways to increase their productivity and reduce energy use and waste. Learn more about the OSU Energy Efficiency Center here. Diversity & Cultural Engagement Events
THIS WEEK! Race and Racism within religion: Interfaith Dialogue Series, #5
Eliza Young Barstow, Senior Instructor of Religious Studies, invites you to a series of panels featuring a diverse collection of religious leaders from the Willamette Valley who have agreed to gather and discuss challenging social issues. The sessions will be panel discussions, with questions asked by Dr. Barstow. Towards the end of each session, there will be time for audience questions. These panels are funded by a grant from Interfaith America. The next panel will take place on Thursday, May 23rd from 4 – 6 p.m. in the Journey Room of the Memorial Union. May 23’s topic is race and racism within religion, and audience members will get to learn how people from five different religions think about issues of religious leadership, marriage, and gender identities within their respective religions.

Borrow your Textbooks for Free!
The Basic Needs Center (BNC) has a Textbook Lending Library open to all on-campus students that includes books, calculators, chemistry model sets, and more. Visit their Textbook Lending Program website to see resources available at the BNC. Visit the BNC in-person at Champinefu Lodge to check out course materials.
HC Resources
The Honors College main office in LInC 450 is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. HC staff is on hand during business hours to assist with questions, help with scheduling appointments or just chat and share some free candy. HC Study Groups
Need a way to deepen your understanding of course material, discuss challenging concepts and study for upcoming exams and assignments with your fellow Beavs? Sign up for the fall term HC study groups! Study groups are a great way to receive extra academic support in any of your courses. If you would like to participate in fall term HC study groups, please email bailey.garvin@oregonstate.edu.
“Forgot Your Lunch?” Station Available in SLUG
The Honors College is back with a “Forgot Your Lunch?” station for you to have a snack or light lunch if you ever need it. Whether you need food because you forgot your lunch, are low on money or simply need a snack, please help yourself to this free resource. The resource is self-serve and can be accessed any time that the SLUG is open in the kitchen area. The student computer lab and lounge (the SLUG) on the third floor of LInC 340 will be open:
- Monday-Thursday – 7:30 a.m.-9:00 p.m.
- Friday – 7:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
- Saturday – noon- 6:00 p.m.
- Sunday – 10:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m.
These resources are available throughout the term.
