THIS WEEK! Sign-ups now open for Honors College Winter Book Clubs!
An Honors College winter tradition is back! Sign-ups are now open for the HC’s Winter Community Book Clubs! Each year, the HC invites a handful of university community members to select a book to share with a small group of HC students. This year’s group hosts include distinguished university leaders, faculty, and alumni. Group members each get a free copy of their group’s book to read over the break, and groups meet with their host to discuss the book at the beginning of winter term. This is a fantastic way to meet interesting members of the broader Oregon State community and connect with fellow HC students. Attendance at the group meeting is a requirement of participation. Students who sign up first have priority in group assignments, so don’t delay in registering! Sign up here by December 1st.

Take a break from the last few chaotic weeks of the term and paint rocks and gift bags provided by HCSA! Snacks and refreshments will be provided. Join on Wednesday, Nov. 29th from 4-5 in LINC 343. We hope to see you there!

Come meet other students, volunteer, practice leadership, plan events or get involved with the Honors College this fall! The Honors College Student Association holds general meetings every Monday from 7 to 8 p.m. in LInC 303. The HCSA is looking for new students to join the leadership team and have specific positions open for first-year students! Come learn more about HCSA! All HC students are welcome to join.

Whether you’re unsure of what to do for your thesis or just want some research experience, you can check out the page to see what options are currently available. The page will be updated regularly with the newest opportunities.

THIS WEEK! Pizza and Registration Prep
Winter term registration is coming! Join us in the SLUG for pizza and registration prep. Get a refresher on how to register for classes and how to search for honors courses. Two current HC students will be around to help troubleshoot and answer commonly asked questions. Tuesday, Nov. 28 and Friday, Dec. 1 from 3-4 p.m. in the SLUG.

Scholarship & Financial Aid Opportunities
DUE THIS WEEK! Roundhouse Foundation Marine Studies Innovation Lab Scholarship
The Roundhouse Foundation Marine Studies Innovation Lab Scholarship supports Oregon State University undergraduate students in their second year or more of study who are participating in a paid internship with the Hatfield Marine Science Center (HMSC) Innovation Lab (iLab) in Newport, Oregon. Recipients will be students in any college at Oregon State University who are interested in developing the programs and operations of the HMSC iLab. Students are considered for both the internship and the scholarship based on their application for the scholarship. Applications are due Sunday, Dec. 3rd.

HC Differential Tuition Emergency Grant
The Honors College encourages students experiencing unusual financial challenges to apply for a one-term Honors College Differential Tuition and Emergency Grant of $500. This is not a scholarship and is designed to provide short-term, immediate support. Contact bailey.garvin@oregonstate.edu or an Honors College advisor with questions.
HC Experiential Award Application
Honors students who have submitted a thesis proposal are eligible to apply for an Honors Experiential Scholarship of up to $750 in support of participation at a professional conference or engagement in thesis research. Contact Kevin Stoller at kevin.stoller@oregonstate.edu with questions.

NEW! Attend the Advantage Accelerator Internship Information Session!
Please join us to learn about the internship opportunities available through the OSU Advantage Accelerator on Tuesday, Nov. 28th from 5:30 pm to 6:30 p.m. in the LInC 343 and on Zoom. There will be free pizza if you are able to join in person!
The OSU Advantage Accelerator team is looking for several Honors College interns for the academic year. This program is focused on high-growth, traded sector, early-stage startups. Interns assist in the development of new businesses through market research, competitive analysis, due diligence, and more. These internships are paid, and interns can work up to 10 hours per week in the academic year. Students also have the opportunity to enroll in Honors elective credit for this experience.

Corvallis Environmental Center (Job Opportunity)
The Corvallis Environmental Center is looking for two bilingual Spanish-speaking educators to join their team. These educators will play a vital role in both the Farm to School and after-school environmental education programs for elementary-aged children, covering the school year and summer camps. They will deliver instruction in both English and Spanish as necessary. Responsibilities encompass various activities such as classroom cooking education, garden classes, field trips, and leading lessons and games focused on ecology, science, and skill-building during summer camps and environmental education programs. Additionally, the position may involve participation in other education programs, serving as a teacher or substitute when required, which includes Schools Out Adventures, NaturePlay preschool, field trips, and custom education programs. NEW THIS WEEK! Japanese Language Club – Friday Karaoke!
Feeling like singing your heart out? Open to all, join the Japanese Language Club (JLC) in singing karaoke with free pizza provided on Friday, Dec. 1. from 6:00 to 7:20 p.m. at Valley Library, Willamette Room (3rd Floor). The purpose of JLC is to build a sense of community among Japanese learners of all levels through practicing the language in a casual fashion. JLC hosts 30-minute conversational practice twice a week, and bi-weekly general meetings. Check out the event calendar, Discord, or Instagram for updates!
TODAY! AYA WoC Discussion Group
AYA, the Women of Color (WoC) Initiative from the Hattie Redmond Women and Gender Center will be hosting a WoC Discussion held bi-weekly (ODD Weeks) on Wednesdays from 2-3 PM at the Women & Gender Center. This group will be co-facilitated with Shaznin Daruwalla and Chanale Propst from Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). Snacks and drinks provided! Need to be in nature after finals? The OSU Research Forests/College of Forestry is seeking volunteers for our second annual Winter Solstice Celebration! Volunteers will assist with setup/cleanup, activities for families, reading stories, guiding folks on forest walks, and making sure people park and navigate to the Forestry Club Cabin safely. Borrow your Textbooks for Free!
The Basic Needs Center (BNC) has a Textbook Lending Library open to all on-campus students that includes books, calculators, chemistry model sets, and more. Visit their Textbook Lending Program website to see resources available at the BNC. Starting Monday, September 18, visit the BNC in-person at Champinefu Lodge to check out course materials.
HC Resources
The Honors College main office in LInC 450 is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. HC staff is on hand during business hours to assist with questions, help with scheduling appointments or just chat and share some free candy. Need a way to deepen your understanding of course material, discuss challenging concepts and study for upcoming exams and assignments with your fellow Beavs? Sign up for the fall term HC study groups! Study groups are a great way to receive extra academic support in any of your courses. “Forgot Your Lunch?” Station Available in SLUG
The Honors College is back with a “Forgot Your Lunch?” station for you to have a snack or light lunch if you ever need it. Whether you need food because you forgot your lunch, are low on money or simply need a snack, please help yourself to this free resource. The resource is self-serve and can be accessed any time that the SLUG is open in the kitchen area. The student computer lab and lounge (the SLUG) on the third floor of LInC 340 will be open:
- Monday-Thursday – 7:30 a.m.-9:00 p.m.
- Friday – 7:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
- Saturday – noon- 6:00 p.m.
- Sunday – 10:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m.
These resources are available throughout the term.
