The Honors College Student Association holds general meetings every Monday from 7 to 8 p.m. in LInC 303. THIS WEEK! HC Fall Festivity
You won’t want to miss this event! Join us on Tuesday, October 24 from 5-7 p.m. in the LInC quad for food, drinks, games, music, drawings, prizes and more. This annual tradition is a chance for the entire Honors College community to celebrate the start of the academic year. Meet new friends, challenge HC faculty to a basketball match, or paint a pumpkin to put in your room! There will be carnival-styled food with lots of activities. NEW! Colleges of Science, Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy Fall Faculty Research Showcases
Looking to learn about research opportunities? Faculty Research Showcases are an excellent way to connect with faculty members, learn more about their research, and potentially get involved in projects that could be the basis of an HC thesis. Even if you don’t yet feel ready to begin research or are not sure about your interests, attending these events help you to explore opportunities and make connections. The Colleges of Science, Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy showcase will be held on on Tuesday, Nov 14 from 4-5:30 p.m. in LInC 100. Reserve your seat for an upcoming showcase here. SLUG Renovations

Scholarship & Financial Aid Opportunities
NEW! THIS WEEK! National and Global Scholarships Info Night
Have you ever thought about going abroad to study or do research? Or about getting support for your specific ideas in your undergraduate degree and beyond? There are scholarships for that! The National and Global Scholarships Advising Office invites students to join them in Sackett Hall for a chat about nationally competitive scholarship opportunities you can use to enhance your experience at OSU. Come talk to past applicants, learn about which scholarships might be a good fit for you, and figure out how to apply. Event is Wednesday, October 25, from 5:00 – 6:00 PM in the F/G lounge in Sackett Hall.
NEW! Peter Bañuelos Legacy Scholarship
The Alpha Theta chapter is thrilled to introduce the Peter Bañuelos Legacy Scholarship. In loving memory of their dear brother, Peter Bañuelos, they have established a $500 scholarship to honor his legacy and the positive influence he had on their fraternity. This scholarship stands as a perpetual tribute to his life and a means to support members of their community. 2023-24 STARR Award Program is Now Open
Oregon NASA Space Grant offers students who are interested in space science/aerospace related careers and are attending our member community colleges and 4-year universities, an opportunity to apply for $5,000 awards that enhance and supplement their academic study in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) and STEM education. Individuals from underserved and underrepresented groups in STEM fields, women, and individuals with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply. Applications are due Monday, Nov. 6. HC Differential Tuition Emergency Grant
The Honors College encourages students experiencing unusual financial challenges to apply for a one-term Honors College Differential Tuition and Emergency Grant of $500. This is not a scholarship and is designed to provide short-term, immediate support. Contact bailey.garvin@oregonstate.edu or an Honors College advisor with questions.
HC Experiential Award Application
Honors students who have submitted a thesis proposal are eligible to apply for an Honors Experiential Scholarship of up to $750 in support of participation at a professional conference or engagement in thesis research. Contact Kevin Stoller at kevin.stoller@oregonstate.edu with questions.

NEW! Corvallis Environmental Center (Job Opportunity)
The Corvallis Environmental Center is looking for two bilingual Spanish-speaking educators to join their team. These educators will play a vital role in both the Farm to School and after-school environmental education programs for elementary-aged children, covering the school year and summer camps. They will deliver instruction in both English and Spanish as necessary. Responsibilities encompass various activities such as classroom cooking education, garden classes, field trips, and leading lessons and games focused on ecology, science, and skill-building during summer camps and environmental education programs. Additionally, the position may involve participation in other education programs, serving as a teacher or substitute when required, which includes Schools Out Adventures, NaturePlay preschool, field trips, and custom education programs. THIS WEEK! Getting a Dam Job: Government Recruiters Teach Govt. Applications
Interested in navigating the government application process for positions in state or federal government? It’s complicated and this session will focus on showing you how to create the best government application. The OSU Career Center will virtually host guest speakers from the federal and state government who can give you an inside look at how to get your foot in the door on Oct. 24 at noon. This will include insider tips on USAJobs, the Pathways program, applying to state Oregon jobs, and more. Bring your questions! State of the Coast Conference
State of the Coast is a chance to have fun and learn while listening to informative talks on current marine science and policy issues, participate in hands-on activities, and network with research, industry, and community leaders. This is Oregon’s coastal conference for everyone! Darryl Thomas will deliver the keynote address on Bridging Art and Science for Inclusive Communication. The State of the Coast conference is in Newport, OR on Friday and Saturday, November 3-4. Students can register for $25. NEW! Participate in a study of the role of comfort food in Latin American Immigration
Participate in a research study exploring the role comfort food plays in identity development and maintenance among first and second generation Latino immigrants in Western Oregon. Eligible applicants must be at least 18 years old, be first or second generation Latino, and live in Western Oregon. Participants in this 60-90 minute interview will receive a Fred Meyer’s gift card. Borrow your Textbooks for Free!
The Basic Needs Center (BNC) has a Textbook Lending Library open to all on-campus students that includes books, calculators, chemistry model sets, and more. Visit their Textbook Lending Program website to see resources available at the BNC. Starting Monday, September 18, visit the BNC in-person at Champinefu Lodge to check out course materials.
HC Resources
The Honors College main office in LInC 450 is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. HC staff is on hand during business hours to assist with questions, help with scheduling appointments or just chat and share some free candy. Need a way to deepen your understanding of course material, discuss challenging concepts and study for upcoming exams and assignments with your fellow Beavs? Sign up for the fall term HC study groups! Study groups are a great way to receive extra academic support in any of your courses. “Forgot Your Lunch?” Station Available in SLUG
The Honors College is back with a “Forgot Your Lunch?” station for you to have a snack or light lunch if you ever need it. Whether you need food because you forgot your lunch, are low on money or simply need a snack, please help yourself to this free resource. The resource is self-serve and can be accessed any time that the SLUG is open in the kitchen area. The student computer lab and lounge (the SLUG) on the third floor of LInC 340 will be open:
- Monday-Thursday – 7:30 a.m.-9:00 p.m.
- Friday – 7:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
- Saturday – noon- 6:00 p.m.
- Sunday – 10:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m.
These resources are available throughout the term.
