TODAY & WEEKLY! Honors College Student Association (HCSA) Club Meetings
Starting Today come meet other students, volunteer, practice leadership, plan events or get involved with the Honors College this fall! The Honors College Student Association holds general meetings every Monday from 7 to 8 p.m. in LInC 303. We’re looking for new students to join the leadership team and have specific positions open for first-year students! Come learn more about HCSA! All HC students are welcome to join.

TODAY! HCSA Ice Cream Social
Today Monday, October 2 at 7 p.m., get ready for an ice cream social after the HCSA general meeting! This will be taking place outside LInC 303. Enjoy some ice cream and learn about leadership opportunities, event planning, volunteering, networking opportunities and more within HCSA and the wider HC community. All are welcome to join HCSA!

NEW! Honors College Pathways: Setting Yourself Up for Success in Industry
All Honors College students are invited to a Zoom conversation with Oregon State University honors program alum Eric L. Vogel ’78 on Monday, October 9 from 4:00-4:50 p.m. Pacific Time on “Setting yourself up for success in industry.” Eric will lead a conversation on industry priorities, attributes of successful engineers and employees in industry and understanding roles in first jobs. Bowling with the HC- Fall Family Weekend
Come join other HC students and their families for an afternoon of bowling and bollard games. Light food and drinks will be available. This event is taking place on Friday, October 13 from 3-5 p.m. at MU Lanes & Games.

HC Fall Festivity
You won’t want to miss this event! Join us on Tuesday, October 24 from 5-7 p.m. in the LInC quad for food, drinks, games, music, drawings, prizes and more. This annual tradition is a chance for the entire Honors College community to celebrate the start of the academic year. Meet new friends, challenge HC faculty to a basketball match, or paint a pumpkin to put in your room! There will be carnival-styled food with lots of activities.Register for this event on the Honors College Community Connector App.

SLUG Renovations
In late October the SLUG will be undergoing minor renovations. It will still be open however computer usage will be limited and it may be noisy. Any questions about the renovation can be emailed to Laura Blackwell at laura.blackwell@oregonstate.edu.

Scholarship & Financial Aid Opportunities

HC Differential Tuition Emergency Grant
The Honors College encourages students experiencing unusual financial challenges to apply for a one-term Honors College Differential Tuition and Emergency Grant of $500. This is not a scholarship and is designed to provide short-term, immediate support. Contact bailey.garvin@oregonstate.edu or an Honors College advisor with questions.

HC Experiential Award Application
Honors students who have submitted a thesis proposal are eligible to apply for an Honors Experiential Scholarship of up to $750 in support of participation at a professional conference or engagement in thesis research. Contact Kevin Stoller at kevin.stoller@oregonstate.edu with questions.

NEW! Center for Advocacy, Prevention & Education (CAPE) Peer Education Program
Are you interested in making your campus a safer and healthier place … and getting paid to do it? Join the Center for Advocacy, Prevention & Education (CAPE)’s brand new Peer Education Program! CAPE Peer Educators will work collaboratively to develop peer-led educational programming and events centered on gender-based violence prevention and sexual health. Girls’ Empowerment, Engineering, and Outreach (GEEO) is a club in the College of Engineering dedicated to empowering K-12 students to pursue STEM careers through service and outreach. We will be having our first general meeting next Tuesday, October 3 from 6-7 PM in KEC 1001. THIS WEEK! Part-Time Job Fair
This job fair allows students interested in part-time jobs or internships to interact with local employers stationed at tables in the Student Experience Center Plaza. Representatives from these companies accept job applications on-site and interact with students eager to seek employment! Students are encouraged to stop by on Wednesday, October 4 anytime from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Research Assistant Opportunity
Are you interested in working with young children in school settings and learning about research and education in the real world? The Kindergarten Readiness Research Program is looking for volunteer undergraduate research assistants. Join the University Legislative Scholars Program
The University Legislative Scholars (ULS) is a year-long experiential learning program that enables students to engage in public policy issues at the state level while also increasing student advocacy in the Oregon legislative process. A welcome and welcome back event for the LGBTQIA2S+ community. Meet new friends, expand your community, and learn about helpful resources! NEW! Hattie Redmond Women & Gender Center Welcome

NEW! Ettihad Welcome Event
If you are new to OSU or a returning student, come join the Ettihad Cultural Center Welcome event on Thursday, October 5 from 2-4 p.m. in the SEC Plaza. Stop at our ECC Table in the Student Experience Center Plaza first. We will then show you the way to Ettihad on the third floor of SEC. There, our student staff will give you a tour, share some snacks from the Ettihad regions, and be in community. NEW! Latinx Connect
Latinx Connect is a welcome event focused on providing resources and community to new first year students, transfer students, Latinx-identifying students, staff and faculty members, and others interested in learning more about El Centro Cultural César Chávez, Latinx Student organizations, and various resources on Oregon State University’s Corvallis campus. The event will feature games, raffles, and tabling from Latinx-serving student organizations on campus. Feel free to stop by on Friday, October 6 from 5-7 p.m. at Centro Cultural Cézar Chávez and participate in any of our activities or even just to visit the space. All are welcome!

Campus-Wide Opportunities

THIS WEEK! Beaver Community Fair Connect with the Beaver Community on Friday, October 6 from 12-4 p.m. in the MU Quad and Sec Plaza! Annually the Beaver Community Fair draws together the OSU and greater Corvallis communities to celebrate the start of the academic year.  Over two hundred different booths representing OSU departments & student organizations, Corvallis community agencies & businesses and local non-profit organizations are coming together to make visible the opportunity to connect with services, products, and involvement opportunities on campus and around the area.

Students: Borrow your Textbooks for Free!
The Basic Needs Center (BNC) has a Textbook Lending Library open to all on-campus students that includes books, calculators, chemistry model sets, and more. Visit their Textbook Lending Program website to see resources available at the BNC. Starting Monday, September 18, visit the BNC in-person at Champinefu Lodge to check out course materials.

HC Resources

The Honors College main office in LInC 450 is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. HC staff is on hand during business hours to assist with questions, help with scheduling appointments or just chat and share some free candy. You can also get in touch with the main office by contacting honors.college@oregonstate.edu or by calling 541.737.6400. 

NEW! HC Study Groups
Need a way to deepen your understanding of course material, discuss challenging concepts and study for upcoming exams and assignments with your fellow beavs? Sign up for the fall term HC study groups! Study groups are a great way to receive extra academic support in any of your courses. If you would like to participate in fall term HC study groups, please email bailey.garvin@oregonstate.edu by Monday, October 9!

“Forgot Your Lunch?” Station Available in SLUG
The Honors College is back with a “Forgot Your Lunch?” station for you to have a snack or light lunch if you ever need it. Whether you need food because you forgot your lunch, are low on money or simply need a snack, please help yourself to this free resource. The resource is self-serve and can be accessed any time that the SLUG is open in the kitchen area.

Campus opportunity: 
Finishing up your research/ thesis but don’t know how to talk about it. College of AgSci is hosting a workshop about how to create a poster and give an elevator pitch. This can be helpful for the HC thesis external communication requirement. All students are welcome regardless of major. Thursday, October 12 from 6-7:30pm in LINC 303. If you have questions please reach out to Rachel Jones

  • The student computer lab and lounge (the SLUG) on the third floor of LInC 340 will be open:
    • Monday-Thursday – 7:30 a.m.-9:00 p.m.
    • Friday – 7:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
    • Saturday – noon- 6:00 p.m.
    • Sunday – 10:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m.

These resources are available throughout the term.
