NEW! Spring Gala
All Honors College students are invited to attend HCSA’s Spring Gall for a night of music, dancing, activities and celebration on Friday, May 26 from 6-9 p.m. in the MU ballroom. Semi-formal attire is encouraged. Please RSVP by May 20. While we acknowledge that many students have friends outside of the Honors College, we ask that students refrain from bringing guests unless they are also members of the Honors College. NEW! Graduation Celebration
Spring and summer 2023 graduates are invited to join Honors College faculty and staff for the 2023 Honors College Graduation Celebration. There will be opportunities for photos, gifts and light refreshments. Students and families are welcome to arrive anytime between 4 and 5:30 on Friday, June 16 on the LInC Lawn. Please RSVP here. NEW! The Final Stretch Hike
Join the Honors College in getting some fresh air and sunshine before finals week! On Saturday, June 10 we will meet in parking lot A outside of the LInC at 10 a.m. for a hike! Transportation will be included. This hike is open to hikers at all levels, but is geared toward mildly to experienced hikers. Vote here for which trail we should hike.
NEW! HC Spring Undergraduate Research Showcase
On Wednesday, May 17 from 5-6:30 p.m. Honors College Dean, Toni Doolen, invites you to the online Honors College Undergraduate Research Showcase. At this online event, current honors students will present brief lightning talks about their research and then be viable to answer questions in breakout rooms. We hope to see you there! RSVP here!
NEW! HC Courses Available at Hatfield Marine Science Center
This fall, an expanded array of courses is available to undergraduate and graduate students at Oregon State University Hatfield Marine Science Center. Studying on the coast provides an opportunity for students to gain valuable lab and field experience in a small class environment. Students have an opportunity to live on the Hatfield campus in the heart of the Oregon coast. For students who need to commute, a daily Coast-to-Valley Shuttle is available. Stage 3 Studio Dates
Have a thesis mentor but need an extra nudge completing and submitting your thesis proposal? Befuddled by the thesis proposal, agreement or timeline? Need some dedicated time to work on you proposal? Drop by for a brief overview of the proposal process, get your questions answered and take advantage of the time to receive guidance, consult, write, and learn from your peers. Bring your ideas, questions, and, if available, a draft of your proposal. Stop by on Tuesday, May 16 in LInC 350 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Scholarship & Financial Aid Opportunities
NEW! Dr. Nancy Squires Memorial Scholarship Program
In honor of Nancy Squires, who enthusiastically shared her passion for aerospace with all and inspired countless students to pursue a career in STEM, OSGC is pleased to announce the Dr. Nancy Squires Memorial Scholarship Program. There is a $3,000 award given for undergraduate students and a STEM Pre-Service Educator scholarship (MAT or MS students) for $5,000.
Awards will be made in the following six categories:
– STEM Education: Preparation to be a classroom teacher or an informal educator in a STEM field
– Life Science: Includes biology, anatomy, astrobiology, zoology, botany, microbiology, physiology, biochemistry, neuroscience, and other related areas
– Physical Science: Includes physics, astronomy, chemistry, earth science
– Mathematics
– Engineering and Technology
– Non-STEM field with a significant connection to aerospace or space science (community college and undergraduate programs only)

NEW! National and Global Scholarships Presents a Personal Statement Workshop
Want to learn how to write an excellent personal statement for a scholarship, fellowship, or graduate school application? Join National and Global Scholarships Advising for a personal statement workshop on Tuesday, May 23 from 1-2 p.m., Autzen Classroom 2082 in the Valley Library and find out how you can communicate your story with clarity. Whether you’re actively applying to a scholarship or fellowship, think you might apply to one in the future, or just want to improve your writing skills, you are welcome to attend! During the workshop, you’ll learn the who, what, where, when, and how of writing a personal statement, and come away with tips and tricks for continuing to hone your skills. SNAP Outreach at the BNC
Students may be eligible for $234 a month in grocery funds! SNAP is a federal nutrition benefits program and the Basic Needs Center Center at Oregon State assists with applications! For more information visit the SNAP link here.
HC Differential Tuition Emergency Grant
The Honors College encourages students experiencing unusual financial challenges to apply for a one-term Honors College Differential Tuition and Emergency Grant of $500. This is not a scholarship and is designed to provide short-term, immediate support. Contact bailey.garvin@oregonstate.edu or an Honors College advisor with questions.
HC Experiential Award Application

UPCOMING DEADLINE! NickelBlock Forecasting Remote Internship Opportunities
NickelBlock Forecasting is a small company that publicly serves the central Gulf Coast with daily weather forecasts and an app. This is a remote internship focusing on Python development, HTML/PHP/ web development and App development. Interns have historically spent between 10 and 15 hours per week working on projects and helping out with brainstorming. Interns will be granted a $300 ‘scholarship’ at the end of the summer to help with books in the fall. While our company doesn’t have much money, we want to help where we can. OSU Energy Efficiency Center Job Opportunity
The OSU Energy Efficiency Center (EEC) is looking for motivated student energy/technical analysts to work part-time during the school year (10-12 hrs/week) and during the summer (30-40 hrs/week). Student teams advised by engineering faculty visit manufacturers and seek ways to increase their productivity and reduce energy use and waste. These engineering analyses and improvement recommendations are compiled into a report and delivered to the client. Fujifilm Dimatix is seeking an enthusiastic and thorough person to engage cross-functional teams including representatives from various groups under Operations to help build and administer a more robust training program for its production technicians and trainers. This essential role will support production technicians, technician trainers, leads, and supervisors to insure training coverage and competency across all production shifts. The Training Coordinator will manage training and certification activities for production technicians throughout the training phases, as well as onboarding of engineers and general staff. Become a Beaver Connect Peer Mentor
Beaver Connect is recruiting Peer Mentors for the 2023-2024 academic year. Peer Mentors will help connect new-to-Oregon State students, peers, and faculty members in an effort to ease the student transition to college. Students are placed on teams of up to 4 new-to-Oregon State students, 1 peer mentor and 1 faculty member for mentorship, guidance, and community building in their first year at Oregon State. NEW! The Secret War: Untold Stories
On Wednesday, May 10 from 6-8:30 p.m. join the APCC and CEL in listening to a panel of speakers in the MU Horizon Room. They will be sharing counter-narratives and untold stories from The Secret Wars in Laos that occurred during the Vietnam War. The event will also feature art from the conflict, as well as an interactive art piece for participants to engage and reflect on their relationship and understanding of the wars in the SEC Plaza. Conversation with Scholar Noam Chomsky
On Tuesday, May 16 at 12 p.m. in the MU Horizon Room, please join the Center for Global Health, Muslim Student Association, and Honors College for a conversation with renowned scholar Noam Chomsky about his recent book, Notes on Resistance. Noam Chomsky is Institute Professor (emeritus) in the Department of Linguistics and Philosophy at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Laureate Professor of Linguistics and Agnese Nelms Haury Chair in the Program in Environment and Social Justice at University of Arizona. The event will discuss critical real-world issues, such as lessons we can learn from the pandemic, global challenges we are currently facing, and advice for student activism. There will be a 40-minute discussion followed by an opportunity for Q/A from the audience. Make sure to RSVP here.

Anytime Anywhere: MySSP @ OSU App
Anytime Anywhere: MySSP @ OSU is an app that gives all OSU students, including Ecampus students, 24/7 access by text or phone with a licensed mental health counselor (MySSP stands for “My Student Support Program”). The app makes it easy to schedule short-term counseling appointments with the same ongoing counselor and provides educational materials covering mental health topics. Students can communicate with a counselor in five different languages (Mandarin, Cantonese, French, Spanish or English); additional language options are available upon request. The Honors College main office in LInC 450 is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. HC staff is on hand during business hours to assist with questions, help with scheduling appointments or just chat and share some free candy.
