I just want to start off by saying that the past few weeks have been crazy! I did not anticipate a lot of it and it set us back a little in the capstone project (as well as my life)…but I am happy to share that I bounced back! I am now almost caught up with the project as well as my work (full-time Software Developer).
It all started when I decided to visit New York at the beginning of October. I had taken care of my project work a week in advance and had done most of the work for my full-time job. So I thought to myself: I can actually enjoy this trip now without worrying about any work in the back of my mind…what could go wrong? I was wrong. Turns out we had a major outage at my workplace on the first day of my vacation that I had taken off. So the next day I had to jump into a very long zoom call from my hotel in New York and had to cancel all my travel plans for the day. In an effort to salvage what was left of my vacation day, I made an attempt to still try to do what I had planned (i.e. visit Brooklyn Bridge, Empire State Building etc) I managed to successfully do 80% of the things on my list…which honestly, I was quite happy with given the circumstances I was in. But that also meant I had to sleep less, which I didn’t mind too much as I was not anticipating any more hiccups for the next morning…I was obviously wrong. It turns out the website we were hosting for our capstone had gone down mysteriosly. I focused on providing support to my teammates as much as I could but seeing as most of us were working on the project locally, I decided to left this one alone.
Hence, when I came back I looked into the issue of the website not working. After hours of trying, I decided it was best to just find a new hosting platform. We were initially using Google Cloud for hosting but are now using Vercel. It is far easier as it just connects to our Github repo and all the changes made to the repo are automatically directed to our hosted website. We are enjoying the ease of use so far as a group. We still use Google Cloud for our database as that seems to have no issues, yet. We also need to find a better platform to authenticate users…something more user friendly than Google Firebase. But hey, one thing at a time. I think I have had enough adventures for one month!
