Jack Shulz Thesis Presentation

Jack Shulz shared the results of his research on plant-fungal symbioses in Douglas Fir, under the direction of Dr. Posy Busby and in collaboration with her research group. For this research, Jack scored more than 60,000 root tips for the presence of ectomycorrhizae.

These root tips came from plants grown from seed collected at low, medium, or high elevations in the Central Oregon Cascade mountain range. Plants were exposed to soil microbes collected from low or high elevations, or a no-microbe control. Half of the plants were watered throughout this greenhouse experiment, and the other half were exposed to drought for one month.

Jack is earning his B.S. degree in BioResource Research, with a specialization in two options: Sustainable Ecosystems and Plant Growth & Development.
