Writing Exercise #6

Thinking about my past experiences personally with antibiotics I couldn’t think of a single memory. This seems odd to me that we’ve been learning about these pretty common medications and I can’t even remember ever using them. I had to contact my parents to confirm whether I have had antibiotics in the past and it seems I have but only when I was younger for an ear infection. I think my personal philosophy for antibiotics would be to take in small amounts. I wouldn’t want to grow resistance to the antibiotics but if a doctor prescribed them for me and truly believed they were what is best for the condition I am in then I would take them. Especially in a scenario that involved surgery I think that would be a time where I would find antibiotics important to prevent infections if my doctor had advised them for me. Overall, if used wisely I believe antibiotics are a crucial part of medicine and the benefiting certain diseases by slowing or inhibiting the growth of microorganisms. I would love to see more studies done on antibiotic resistance to understand where the line is crossed. I’m sure it varies from person to person but it would be nice to understand how much antibiotic is typically too much in which case they wouldn’t be beneficial anymore.
