OSU|OHSU College of Pharmacy Class of 2016
On Friday, June 10, 2016 OSU|OHSU College of Pharmacy conferred 92 Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) Degrees, 3 Doctors of Philosophy, and 2 Masters of Science. 3 of the 92 PharmD graduates also received their Master of Business Administration degree from the OSU College of Business. Dean Mark Zabriskie began the ceremony by welcoming family’s and friend’s of the 118th class of OSU College of Pharmacy graduates as honored guests to the 16th annual commencement ceremony.

Dean Zabriskie then went on to address the graduates and guests by offering interesting facts about the class of 2016, including average age (28), percentage of male to female (40% versus 60%, respectively), and the percentage of Oregon residents (82%). It is also notable that 25 graduates will further their professional development by pursuing postgraduate training in the form of a pharmacy residency. Additionally, 16 students will continue working towards earning their Masters of Business Administration or another Master’s Degree.

Class President, Michele Wofford (`16) addressed the graduates and audience with a poem entitled So God Made a Pharmacist modifying Paul Harvey’s inspirational poem So God Made a Farmer. Her address reminded the class of their incredible responsibility as pharmacists to serve their patients with compassion, clarity, and strength as they advance and move throughout the pharmacy profession.

Oregon State University President Edward Ray and Oregon Health Sciences University Provost and Executive Vice President Dr. Jeanette Mladenovic honored graduates with inspiring speeches. President Ray spoke about the graduates entering the pharmacy profession as leaders and partners of a diverse health care team. Provost Mladenovic spoke about the unique role that they as pharmacists take within health care organizations in providing effective patient care.

While all graduates were celebrated during the graduation ceremony, a few exceptional students were recognized for their outstanding work over the last four years. Dr’s. Mark Leid (’90) and Theresa Filtz presented the following 10 students with 8 distinguished awards for the work they have accomplished in the classroom, clinics, and community:

In closing, Dean Zabriskie welcomed the graduates to the OSU|OHSU College of Pharmacy alumni family. He encouraged them to continue their relationship with the college by attending continuing education programs, connecting with the college for events, networking, and professional development, as well as attending homecoming, reunions and to continue cheering on the Beavers.

After the ceremony, graduates reunited with their friends and families outside LaSells Stewart Center for a dessert reception in celebration of their tremendous accomplishments.
