“Some people are lucky enough to find their calling early. Paulina Nguyen, a Portland native and fourth-year student in Oregon State’s Pharm.D./MBA dual-degree program, was always meant to help others. Since she was a little girl, Nguyen knew she wanted to join the health care profession. It started when she visited her neighborhood pharmacy with her family.
“‘We would always see the pharmacist providing clinical info, counseling patients, and essentially working on the front lines of patient care,’ she says. ‘It was really empowering. I’ve wanted to be a part of pharmacy
since then.’
“Nguyen has worked quickly to achieve her goals. In middle school, she skipped half of 7th and 8th grade, entering high school when she was only 13. She skipped her junior year of high school and due to her early start, graduated at age 16, then applied to Oregon State’s early admissions program in the College of Pharmacy. Nguyen was not only accepted, she also joined the Honors College, which allowed her to complete her bachelor’s degree in three years and begin pharmacy school at age 19.”
