Woodburn Cesar Chavez Health Fair

Recently approximately twenty OSU College of Pharmacy students participated in the Cesar Chavez Woodburn Community Health Fair on March 31st at Woodburn High School. This fair served as a way to address the critical health needs in Woodburn’s migrant farm worker population and to empower the community through health education. Numerous community groups were involved.

Students were able to provide 93 blood glucose screenings and 93 blood pressure screenings. Our smoking cessation committee offered a new service where patients blew into a Smokerlyzer to monitor their CO levels. Students even provided medication reconciliation to an inquiring patient. More than 200 community members were served in all.

OSU students donated some items to the onsite raffle. This is the first year that students have participated in the Cesar Chavez Woodburn Community Health Fair and we look forward to participating in the future.

This event would not have been possible without the help of numerous faculty and non-faculty preceptors. Thank you to Roberto Linares, Cathy Zehrung and Victor Gonzales for precepting the event as well as to all the student volunteers!
