Beavs Get Free Helmets on Campus

Thinking about getting a helmet or know someone who is? Right now, Beavers can get free helmets at Student Health Services on the Corvallis campus of OSU.  All you need to do is go to the front desk of Student Health Services and request one. No appointment is needed.

Why wear a helmet?

Look and feel good

Many people may recall uncomfortable, bulky bike helmets from childhood that got hung off the handlebars as soon as parents weren’t looking. If it’s been a while since you tried on a helmet, you may be in for a nice surprise. Free helmets for Beavers feature sleek designs, school colors, and a fit that adjusts for a wide range of heads and hairstyles. We’ve seen friend groups pick out matching helmets for shared rides.

Invest in your brain

Protecting your head connects to your investment in higher education. In the Transportation Services annual survey, 84% of graduate students who use active transportation reported always wearing a helmet. That’s a higher rate than undergraduates in any year and more than twice the national average. This difference highlights opportunities for undergraduates at OSU to choose helmets more often. And helmets aren’t just for students, they are also available for employees of OSU.

Free for Beavs

OSU Transportation Services is able to purchase helmets in bulk and offer them to the campus community at no charge. This removes a cost barrier that can be steep, because even budget helmets cost an average of $50. Free helmets improve safety and affordability.

In addition to free helmets at Student Health Services, helmets are also available on request at OSU Transportation Services and the Department of Public Safety. For information contact transportation@oregonstate.edu
