Is a Job-Based Pay Structure Right for Me?

The company that I chose to research is Moda Health. This is an insurance company with its headquarters being located in Portland, Oregon. Moda Health provides health insurance to individuals all over the country. I chose this company because I have the possibility of working here after I graduate from college, and I wanted to look into how they compensate their employees so that I can see if it would be the right fit for me.

One of the things that drew me to this company was their company culture and their possibilities for growth within the company. The position that I would be applying for would be considered an entry-level position, and there are many levels above this position that I would be able to be promoted into. All of the positions at this company are salary based, with extra benefits and compensation that can be earned.

Based on my research into the company, and my informational interview, I would recommend that Moda Health use a job-based pay structure. When talking to the manager conducting my informational interview, she told me that the compensation and benefits at Moda Health are great and they are a part of the reason that she took her job. She also told me that right after she graduated college, she started out as a data entry intern, and has worked her way all the way up to department manager. This shows that there is a hierarchical structure to Moda Health, and that compensation is not based on the skills or knowledge that an employee may have.

Based on the information I have gained from learning about job-based pay structures and person-based pay structures, I am very confident to say that Moda Health’s best option for a pay structure is to use the job-based pay structure.
