How Far Is Too Far?

If I came across an article about how my favorite company was faced with a public lawsuit that they were accused of discriminating against individuals from an ethnicity, culture, or belief system, that would absolutely change my opinion on them. Whether I personally was associated with that group of individuals, discrimition in my book is not acceptable in any form. In hopes of the claims being false, I would need to make sure to do my research before completely exiling the company. False claims can be common, but I would need to find out the truth.

According to the text, “in business, you are who you hire.” Vice Versa, you are who you work for. With that being said, discrimination would absolutely change whether or not I applied to work for that company in the future. I would not want to associate myself with a company whose values and beliefs do not align with my own. It’s a safe bet to say that all of my colleagues and managers would also support the company’s stance on the lawsuit about discrimination as well. Why would I want to be a part of something I don’t think is right? I am typically a very unproblematic person, but with that being said I also choose to not put myself in situations where I know I would feel uncomfortable. If I ended up choosing to work somewhere that I know discriminates against individuals, I would feel as though I was walking on eggshells, afraid that I will end up speaking my mind eventually to the wrong person at the wrong time.
