The OSU football team has wrapped up 2012 recording only the 7th season with 9 or more wins in program history. Five of these seasons with 9 or more wins have taken place in the last dozen years. The increased number of 9-win or better seasons in recent years is attributable to better competitiveness of the OSU program on the playing field and an increase in the number of games played in a season.

But how does this accomplishment compare to those of our peer programs in the Pac-12 conference? While earning the 7th all-time 9 win or better season is cause for celebration at OSU, other members of the conference have achieved this feat with much greater regularity than the Beavers.

OSU’s 7 recorded 9-win or greater marks rank 11th in the conference only above the University of Arizona’s 5 seasons. Our conference rival has more than twice as many of these seasons across their history while the conference’s lone member of college football’s elite tier – USC, has nearly twice as many as second place UCLA and 28 more than OSU.
The current expectations for OSU football is to have winning seasons and go to bowl games with regularity. But many in Beaver Nation now feel that it’s time to elevate the program to the next level. At the next higher tier, expectations increase to having winning seasons and going to bowl games with regularity, and to win conference championships. With winning conference championships comes the need to win 9 or more times each season more often than OSU does right now.
