Women in Healthcare: Thriving in 2020

Are you interested in learning more about ways to develop your career and exciting new healthcare fields? Attend Thriving in 2020: Discussion for Emerging Leaders in Healthcare put on by the Women in Healthcare Oregon Chapter. This event will be on March 5 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at the Lucky Lab Multnomah Village in Portland. The speaker this year is Brenda Purvis, a Workforce Planning Consultant with Kaiser Permanente. Study Abroad: From Classroom to Community

Dr. Tammy Bray and Dr. Sunil Khanna have put together a study abroad opportunity in Taiwan and India called ‘From Classroom to Community.’ Students will be able to earn 16 credits during this 8 week opportunity. Join one of the two information sessions to learn more about this amazing opportunity! The first one will be held on Wednesday, February 26, and the second will be Thursday, March 5. They will both be from 12-1:00 pm in Milam 119.

Volunteer with Camp Promise

Camp Promise-Rockies is a camp for youth and young adults with muscular dystrophy and neuromuscular diseases. They are looking for volunteers to join them for one week, August 2-7, at their camp in Empire, CO this summer! The camp believes all kids should get to experience the magic of camp, regardless of their medical needs or physical abilities and highly value our volunteers who help make this happen. Apply by May 18, 2020!

Beavers Belong

Beavers Belong is a support network for students, by students. Their goals are to create connection, community, and belonging through weekly peer-led groups, on-campus events, and activities. They aim to cultivate an inclusive space supporting each other’s identities and well-being. Drop-in hours are: Monday 2-3:00 pm, Monday 3-4:00 pm, Monday 4-5:00 pm, and Friday 2-3:00 pm. Monday’s drop-in hours will be in the Family Friendly Room in the MU Lounge, and Friday’s will be in the Wellness Nook in the MU Room 62.

New Course: Innovation for Social Impact

This Spring, consider taking HEST/ANTH 199: Innovation for Social Impact. Whether it is innovations to slow climate change, improve health, or increase social justice, there are endless ways to have a positive impact on society through design of technologies and services. Join faculty from engineering and anthropology with guest lectures from entrepreneurs to design solutions to apply tools from those fields to address a current social issue that resonates with you. The course will be on Tuesday and Thursday from 2-3:20 pm, Spring 2020.

Grad Inspire Night

On March 3, join six current graduate students as they share the stories behind their research. Grad Inspire combines scholarship communication with personal narrative, giving you a glimpse of not only how these students perform their work, but also the motivations and commitment behind it. This night introduces the phenomenal breadth of research, teaching, and discovery undertaken by graduate students at Oregon State. Doors open at 5:30 pm and the event starts at 6:00 pm in the MU Ballroom.

Academy for Lifelong Learning Scholarship

Full-time students who have a GPA of 3.2 or higher and who qualify for financial assistance as defined by the OSU Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships should apply for the Academy for Lifelong Learning Scholarship. This is a $2,000 scholarship for the 2020-2021 academic year. To learn more and receive application forms, contact Rebecca Marti. Applications are due by April 24, 2020.

PTAH Club: Upcoming Meeting

The Pre-Therapy and Allied Health Club is having a meeting about OSU Athletic Training and the new Doctor of Physical Therapy program.  The DPT program is starting in 2021 at OSU-Cascades!  Come join our meeting during week 9, Tuesday, March 3rd at 6:00 pm in STAG 110, to hear some inside info from program directors Dr. Kim Hannigan and Dr. Christine Pollard!  Email any questions to club president Samantha Noregaard.
