Week 8 Blog

I left my job at IES to take a new position at WPI because they offered me more money and what seemed like a better opportunity. The higher salary was a big motivator because it felt like a recognition of my skills and hard work. However, the decision wasn’t easy, as IES was a great place to work. I was learning so much from my manager, who was showing me the ropes, and I felt like I was growing professionally. It was a process that took about a month to fully figure out. I spent time talking with my managers at IES and continuing conversations with the people at WPI who wanted me to return.

Another key factor in my decision was my familiarity with WPI. I had previously worked there, completing two summer internships, and really liked their operations and the people I worked with. That positive experience stuck with me and made the idea of returning to WPI feel comfortable and reassuring. Knowing it was a place I enjoyed gave me confidence about making the switch.

The promise of growth and potential opportunities at WPI was also a big draw, though I’m still assessing whether it lives up to my expectations. In the end, the combination of better pay, familiarity, and potential for advancement made the offer hard to turn down.
