This is going to be my final post for CS467, so I thought I should write about my journey as a computer science major at OSU and wrapping it up with the final project before I graduate.
I started with a humble objective – I wanted to automate some of the music work that was getting tired of repeating. Very quickly that journey turned into a full-blown pursuit to complete the computer science degree at OSU. I started in 2018 Winter and I supposed I will complete this semester Fall 2021.
Throughout the journey, the course has allowed me to explore and learn the various foundational building blocks of what it takes to be a computer engineering professional. From the my very 1st class of CS165 where I picked up the C++ language construct and controls to the very low level CS271 Assembly language module that helped me understand how a high-level function is converted to assembly and what it actually means to jump from registers to registers.
Moving on to data structures which helped me to pick the correct structure to solve a specific problem and algorithms to make my code more efficient and understanding the trade-offs. I feel that all these lower level classes really provided me with the strong foundation before moving on to the application specific topics in the upper division classes.
The 2nd half of my journey was really using the foundation that I have acquired. Web development, understanding Databases, Networking, Cloud Development are all topics that built on top of that foundation and as I moved along in the course, I find myself relying on the foundation in order to grasp the topics that was presented to me.
Finally the journey wrapped up with an actual real project where I don’t just deal with technical skills, but I had to deal with inter-relationship teamwork along with some business. The elevator pitch assignment actually threw me off guard as I struggled to sell my project. I am glad I did it and it was a good experience for me.
I am really proud to have embarked on this journey and have at least experienced working together with the awesome team-mates of mine in this short 2-3 months. This is a definitely an invaluable experience for me. Thank you OSU and the awesome instructors that took me through this journey!
